ICU

This month didn't start well, and it kept getting progressively worst.

M has not been feeling too well, on the 5th, after dialysis, he came home shivering and cold and went to bed. He wanted more blankets and still was cold. The next day he was feeling a little better but had nausea and didn't eat much. On Thursday I took him to dialysis and he needed the wheelchair, when I went to pick him up, his blood pressure was very low and they called the ambulance to take him to ER. I followed.  He stayed in the ER for quite a while with doctors working over him, he couldn't breathe, his blood pressure was  extremely low. He didn't look good :(   After doing some more tests, they took him to ICU. Lizzie came that night to keep me company and to see what was happening. The next day they inserted a breathing tube, he was somewhat responsive but was very sedated. We stayed there for a while, then went to lunch and went back to talk to the doctor.  The doctor was very straight with us and said there were quite a few things  going on in his body that they were trying to stabilize.  He couldn't breathe on his own, had a mild heart attack, and had strep pneumonia. His blood pressure was still very low. The doctor was not very positive as to the outlook.
The next 2 days were about the same, sedation, on life support, But he was breathing on his own for a little while at a time. Saturday he had dialysis by the bedside.
On Sunday still at ICU, the doctor decided to pull the breathing tube off since he had the breathing tube turned off and he did well breathing on his own. He was able to talk a little with Lizzie and me and they will keep him in ICU tonight and if  all goes well he will be transferred to a regular hospital room.
Tomorrow Monday we'll go back to the hospital to see if he's still in ICU or they transfered him. After that Lizzie will go back to SD.  Sandy is coming Friday and will spend a couple of days in San Diego with Lizzie and then they will come here for my birthday and of course to see what's going on with their father.
With all this happening, plus the added stress of some problems with my grandson, I haven't had any time or felt like doing any Christmas shopping or decorate the house etc. ::sigh::  I feel tired and sleepy all the time. It's been really nice having Lizzie here. driving me around and keeping me company.  I'm looking forward to having my two girls here  :)

Let's hope things keep improving.

I want to mention the the ICU doctor and nurses were very professional and efficient and they answered every question and were patient and treated M really well. Thank you!

'Tis the season...

22 days till Christmas and I have not got into the Christmas spirit at all. I haven't done any shopping online or at the stores. I haven't even attempted to decorate the house inside or outside (N may come put on some lights).   Anxiety is rearing its ugly head!

Today was not my best day. It must be the full moon. The main problem is I ran out of the bags I need for M to change. Unbelievable! I've prided myself all these years to have supplies ready, actually quite a bit more than we need and yet, today, I was totally out. And it's Sunday. Tomorrow I will call as soon as they open and see if they can send me some urgent supplies, if not I will have to drive around until I find a place that sells them (hard to find). I'm super glad is Monday and no dialysis!

Then I was outside  watering the plants and just doing some yard work. I decided to put some bird food out. I tried to hang the bird feeder and I took my little step stool and couldn't reach the spot, I should have given up and try to choose another spot more reachable but since I am a badass I tried again. No I didn't fall. But came close. Whew!

I was going to cook boneless spareribs for dinner. I checked for some easy recipes, the one I chose said to boil the ribs with some water and spices until tender and then put them in the oven with some barbecue sauce until done. So I did the first part, then I forgot about it. When I went to check on them, they had all but disintegrated. Oh well.

Thanksgiving revisited

Just thought I'd write a little about the week of Thanksgiving.
There was not Thanksgiving holiday  when I was growing up in Barcelona. It is a very American holiday, with the native Americans and the Pilgrims etc, so it's never been one of my top holidays to celebrate, although I think it is nice to give thanks for family and friends and pets etc.

When I first got married that was one of the first holidays I spent at my in laws. It was the typical turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, pies etc. It was repeated the next month for Christmas, just with different types of pies.  I am not crazy about turkey, and thought it strange  to eat stuffing made out of bread. Even the pies were not my favorite type of dessert, especially pumpkin and mincemeat. I still don't care for them now.

So Thanksgiving at home has been always sort of eclectic and non traditional. This year we had grilled rib eye steaks, cesar salad, potatoes and allioli. For appetizers  we had spinach dip and assorted meats (deli turkey, ham, swiss cheese, Brie) with crackers and chips. For dessert we had pumpkin pie, chocolate meringue pie, another chocolate pie I made, apple pie, and cream puffs.

Besides Marv , Lizzie and I, we invited my friend Norbert. Oh and Lulu! It was a low key dinner, everything was good and we all had a nice time.  A highlight was a  face to face call to Sandy and family. It was nice talking to them and seeing them, I had not seen Tristan for a while and he looked so much more grown up  now.

Lizzie came over Tuesday night. Wednesday she had to work (she brought her laptop), I think we had KFC for lunch. Friday Sonia called and we chatted for a while, then the 3 of us went to Capriotti's for lunch, for dinner we had leftovers. Saturday after taking Marv to dialysis, Lizzie and I went to a Restaurant in Whittier called "Toast". It was interesting, Lizzie had the Cali which was toast with avocado and baby heritage tomatoes, I had a toast with Rajas  (slices of poblano pepper) con crema, with corn and bacon.  For dinner we had pizza.

Lizzie left around noon after taking Marv to get a haircut. She was a good help this week and good company too.

Time Flies

Just a week before Thanks giving! November seems to fly by fast.

Marv was sick on Nov 8, I had gone to get a haircut and when I came home he was not feeling well at all. Next day he woke up disoriented, not wanting to go to dialysis, and I couldn't even talk to him, so I decided to call 911.  The firemen, medic, ambulance, first responders in general trooped right in and checked his vitals and everything was good. They wanted to take him to a hospital but I asked them to help me get him in my car and I'd take him to the ER, and so they did.

(Just as an aside, those first responders were fine!)

At the ER they checked him in right away, no waiting. I was happy about it. They kept asking his birth date, his name, if he knew where he was etc. He still had some trouble putting words together but the one thing he couldn't remember was the year. After several tests, they found he didn't have a stroke, but he had some pneumonia, so they kept him overnight. Then they kept him for a couple more days and released him on Sunday. Now he's feeling pretty well, back to normal :)

Lizzie was here and she was good company for me and we went out to lunch a few times, and she helped me when he got home. We also kept in touch with Sandy by texting her. I think is hard for her when she lives far and cannot come as often as she'd like. A good thing with today's electronics you can keep in touch and talk and have face time, and be able to be in touch at any time

When I came to the US, the only way to be in touch with my parents was by regular mail, and that took a few days, also by phone but it was pretty expensive. It was very hard for me not to be able to be there when my father was knifed and in the hospital, or just at any other time for the good things and the bad things. It would have been great to have what we have now...

One last thing...I like our new car. It's nice, looks good, is roomy, it handles well. Good choice!

Happy Halloween ~!

Witchy Woman
Raven hair and ruby lips
Sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
She's a restless spirit on an endless flight
Wooo hooo witchy woman see how
High she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman she got
The moon in her eye
She held me spellbound in the night
Dancing shadows and firelight
Crazy laughter in another
Room and she drove herself to madness
With a silver spoon
Woo hoo witchy woman see how high she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman she got the moon in her eye
Well I know you want a lover,

New car

For a long time, my spouse has been talking about getting a new vehicle.

I have my Ford Mustang, that I like a lot .

And we have a Dodge Dakota pickup in really good shape, with low mileage even though is 10 years old. It has no dents or scratches outside or inside. And it runs very well. And it's all paid for.
I didn't really see the need for a new vehicle and kept on saying we didn't need to trade.

As of late, he has been hinting rather broadly about the need for a new car. He thinks the hoses, etc. are getting old and maybe I will find myself driving to Huntington Beach one day and the hoses will break down and I will be stranded etc. etc.   He's also been talking to the girls about my not wanting to get a new vehicle.  So I've been hearing from them about it too.

I finally got fed up and got tired of  trying to get my point across. So I caved in and we went looking for one.

As I am now the primary driver I didn't want to get something that I would be uncomfortable driving and parking. In addition we would need  a car that is easy for Marvin to get in and out and  easy for me to put the walker inside.

The car he originally wanted was a Ford Escape. Even though he kept on saying is smaller than the pickup blah blah blah, it seemed large to me . We went to the Ford dealer and tried it on for size. He could get in and out easily, but it was hard to get the walker in as the cargo door was narrower than the walker and I had to lift it and try sideways and the lay it down. When I sat on the driver's side I thought it was too large, and I thought it might be  as hard as the pickup to park if not harder. We also checked a Ford Edge which was even bigger but easier to put the walker in, we also checked a couple of other models. We told the salesman we'd think about it. Time spend there, about 3 hours.

FORD ESCAPE

Two days later we went to the Honda dealer. I had been checking cars online and I saw one I sort of liked. They had one 2018 in red (which is the color I wanted), is smaller than the Escape, but it was easy to get in and out and the walker fit well in the cargo, and I felt comfortable in it. Marv said it be OK with him if we got that one as it was a lot roomier than he thought, so we decided to get it. We spend over 6 hours at the dealer! I hated it. Tons of paperwork  and lots of wasted time. And didn't have lunch. I understand it takes time for paperwork and finances etc, but it was waaaaay too long. I was pissed. Marvin of course was OK with it since he has limitless patiente for stuff like that. We were there before  1 and didn't leave till almost seven. We traded the pick up and used it as down payment.

We didn't take it home or test drive it. But we went back on Sunday to pick it up. They said it would be ready for us at noon. But still we had to wait over an hour for it.

So now we have a new car. It's a 2018 Honda, color is Milano Red. It has tons of electronics, cameras etc etc. It'll be a while before I understand how everything works. It drives well and looks good.

Bothersome leg

For about a month now I have been having some problems with my right leg. It started as a sore spot in the left side of the knee, but it started to grow worse in time.
I've been putting cold compresses, taking Ibuprofen and rubbing it with BenGay. It's not too bad during the day but it hurts more at night when I go to bed and stretch my leg it hurts. Sometimes the skin is warm to the touch and sometimes it feels a little burning.

I made an appointment with my doctor but he cancelled the day before, he went out of town! The next appointment would be in 3 weeks. I had a telephone consultation with another doctor. After explaining the problem, she thought I had pulled a muscle. Truth is, sometimes when I'm cleaning or picking up heavy stuff, rather that bending and picking it up I move it pushing it with my leg. Some boxes are heavy (like the Blue Apron ones)

I have now made another appointment with a new doctor. I changed physicians because my regular doctor is in Huntington Beach and now they have opened a new Kaiser much closer to my home so it will be easier to get to. I hope I like him and that he is a good doctor.

It maybe arthritis, since I shattered my left ankle many years ago, the doctor said I would be prone to arthritis. luckily other than a few passing problems I had no problems with it. But I wonder if this might be it. I'll let you know how it goes :)

I know October is a favorite month of my girls :) It's been hot here, but now it's cooling a little, about time!

Same old

I just realized I had not written anything this month other than the August recap.

Nothing much has happened other than going to a couple of doctor's visits . It's not been a very good month health wise especially for Marvin and I haven't done much of anything, just one day I went to have lunch with N at Harbor House in  Seal Beach, and one day I went to have lunch with Marv at Black Angus, and lunch with Lizzie as well, she brought cake :)

The girls have been in a two week nice relaxing vacation in NC and they had a lovely time.

I talked to both my sisters at different times. I had a video call with Nuri and Monica and it was fun to see them and talk to them (she has not changed personality wise lol). Then I called Mia for her birthday, she was of course travelling :)

I guess my next post will be the recap of September.

Happy Feet

Today I went to my podiatry appointment. I go every 3 months, but this time it was 4 months (my doctor was on vacation) and my feet were so ready to be pampered!

My doctor is very nice, Indian ancestry and we always have a good conversation. He just got back from his vacation to England to attend the wedding of a niece, about 20 people  flew from California, he has a large family all over the US , Europe and India. He said all together were about 200+. For what he told me it must have been like a Bollywood movie!

For some reason today he talked about politics, which he never did before. He's a Bernie follower and is very upset with the Democratic Party,  I let him talk because he kept on massaging my feet and my toes and it felt so good!!!!  :)

Tonight before going to bed I massaged my feet again with a blueberry and peppermint lotion and they feel so cool and soft.

Good night and good dreams everybody!

Coyotes

I don't exercise a lot, but I like to walk Lulu around the neighborhood, usually about 4 blocks. We both enjoy it. I like to go in early evening when it's not as hot as during the daytime.

We have not walked around much the last few weeks because of other things going on, but now we are all home and I wanted to get back to our weekly walks.
But...La Mirada is having a pretty big problem with coyotes running loose around the parks, the canals etc. They are craving water and food.
There's been stories of coyotes getting into people's backyards (they can jump 6-7' fences) and grab and kill cats, and small dogs.
In my "Next door" app, a woman wrote about her little dog being attacked by a coyote as they were going for a walk. They live a few blocks from us. The dog survived but so far they have over $7000.00 in vet bills.
About 2 weeks ago, Lulu was barking her head off and I looked outside, and I saw 2 Mexican guys with a long rope, one of the guys was in my front lawn. I wondered what was going on, then I saw a big "dog" running from my neighbors driveway towards the street, the guys ran after him, one of them made a lasso and was trying to catch it. Last I saw them they were running down the street. I thought it was quite a large dog.
Next day I read that 2 coyotes were on the grounds of the middle school down the street for me (no kids, it's summer break) I think the men I saw were custodians in the school that were trying to catch one of the coyotes.  That scared me.

So now I go outside with Lulu on a leash, and when she goes in the back I am watching her. I don't think we'll be walking much until the coyotes decide to go back wherever it is they came from. I was telling this to my friend Norbert and he said there was a coyote at his neighbors backyard (the Santa Ana river canal flows to the ocean just a few blocks away).

The coyote appears often in the tales and traditions of Native Americans—usually as a very savvy and clever beast. Modern coyotes have displayed their cleverness by adapting to the changing American landscape. These members of the dog family once lived primarily in open prairies and deserts, but now roam the continent's forests and mountains. They have even colonized cities like Los Angeles. Coyote populations are likely at an all-time high.

These adaptable animals will eat almost anything.

Busy month

I didn't write much this month, many things happened some good some not so good.

I will do my recap on Monday.  But I will write about the good now.

Lizzie went for a few days to Michigan to see her friend, spent the 4th of July there.

The week after Sandy came to SD to spend a few days with Lizzie, they always enjoy getting together :)  They came to LM  on Sunday and left on Monday, short but sweet.

Of course, lunch at El Cholo

Yesterday I went to wash clothes, and opened the washer list and as I was putting in the clothes, the lid fell on my hand and it hurt a lot! This morning my right hand by the ring finger and the little finger was swollen and painful and colorful, red, purple, black  and yellow. It's so sore :(   I took a picture but you cannot see (it's difficult to take a picture of your right hand with your  left finger!

June Recap

June was better than May!

Marvin is recovering from his hip replacement surgery, Norbert and I got his bath bech set up and is working well. The physical therapist comes twice a week and teaches him some exercises and walk around the driveway to develop strenght and equilibrium etc.

I had a couple of bad days with a big pain in my left side, it was hard to lay down or sit up, part was indigestion  part was stress, according to my doctor.

I picked all the tomatoes in the front yard and one of my kinder kids came with his mom to pick the rest. I also shared my oranges with neighbors.

Sandy had a birthday , and Lizzie came over the weekend of Father's Day. We went to Black Angus and enjoyed a nice lunch, then we had pulled pork tacos at night.  Friday was also the day the neigbor kids had a party until all hours and the sheriff came to knock on my door at 3:30AM thinking I was having the party, as if!  ;)

And I had one of my favorite days at the beach, even though it was a little overcast it was warm and I enjoyed getting my feet wet and enjoying the ocean.

An anecdote

Monday was a hot day. I had to go do some shopping and put gas in the truck.

I went to Sam's and got toilet paper and paper towels. Also some ink for my printer. And some other stuff.

Then I went to Sprouts to get London broil for Marv's lunches. 15 slices separated in groups of 5.
I was getting a little hungry but didn't know what I wanted. I thought maybe a sandwich from the deli, or some soup but it was too hot for soup. So I just asked the deli man to give me a sample of Havarti. I thought I'd munch on it on the way home and maybe think of what I'd want for lunch.

He gave me a very nice slice of cheese :)

When I got on the truck I put the cheese and the London broil in the passenger's side, got in, started to back up and reached for the cheese.

It wasn't there!  I stopped, got out and looked, maybe it fell by the mid compartment, not there, looked on the floor, no cheese. Looked in the back of the cab where the stuff I got in Sam's were, but I just couldn't find it. I was annoyed because I was wanting to taste it  :(

So I just drove home. I didn't even feel like stopping anywhere else for lunch. I would eat something at home.

I got home, stopped the truck, got the London broil, and got off the truck ready to get the stuff in the back. Something felt funny.

I touched my behind and there it was! THE CHEESE SLICE! kinda melty. I had sat on it and had stuck on my butt!!!

I felt dumb.

It reminds me of this cartoon LOL

Gnomes

Let me start by saying that I have never thought about gnomes one way or another. I remember some fairy tales  that had gnomes in them, when I was teaching Kindergarten, a favorite story to read to the kids was "The Three Billy Goats Gruff"  in it there was an evil gnome hiding under the bridge, but actually it was a troll (gnomes live in the forest, close to mushrooms, and trolls live under bridges or rocks and turn to stone in the morning.

Anyway they are mythical creatures, and of course leprechauns is a close relative of trolls and gnomes. But for the purpose of this blog, I'll only will write about gnomes.

One Christmas, my oldest daughter gave me a whimsical gift, it was a gnome carried by 2 trolls? they were made of metal but the gnome was painted ceramic or resin. I thought it was a garden decoration so I put it outside in my garden. We had some rains and the metal trolls rusted badly, so I put them inside.

This past Christmas, my daughters got together to give me stuff to make a fairy garden. There was a book with ideas, a heavy square stone to put the garden in, and some  other things, like a little bridge, a little gnome etc.  I actually had been thinking of making a fairy garden but  wasn't sure how to start.

Anyway I have been experimenting and buying some stuff. Big Lots had an fairy garden area and I bought a few things there. But my focus now is gnomes. I have bought stone gnomes, different sizes and put them around the garden, sometimes they visit the fairy garden too. It's an ongoing thing.

Can you find the gnomes?

Something funny

Last Friday Lizzie came over to spend Father's Day with us. After talking and getting something to eat, it was bed time. Marv went to sleep and so did Lizzie. I stayed up and played in my computer.

That night, there was some music and noise next door but I didn't think much about it. Around 1AM I started hearing lots of talking, music, noise etc. I looked out my bedroom window and my neighbor's son was having a party. His parents were gone for the weekend (I guess) and the 21 year old son decided to invite some of his friends over. Up to now they had been inside and came out once in a while in the front yard, but after 1, they were outside all the time, singing, drinking etc.

Around 2AM it got very noisy and they  went out to the street and get to their cars some of them, but mainly just being really loud and silly, there were about 25-30 college age guys and a few girls. They were noisy, and the lights came out in the houses around the street. Then a lot of honking, cars, semi racing, there were about 8 guys in my driveway jumping around. I turned on my porch light and looked out and it was semi entertaining. By 3AM they all had left and I went back to bed and tried to  fall sleep.

About 3:30AM I heard a loud knock on my door,  a bright white light shone on my house, my room and living room were all lit up. I was wearing my nightie and I put a robe on and tried to decide  whether to open the door. I looked out and there were 2-3 police cars and a car parked right in front of my house shining the bright light on me as I opened the door. 2 policemen were at the door a male and a female. I asked them what was going on and they in turn asked me how many people were in my house, I said my husband and daughter and a dog . They asked me how many other people were inside hiding, I said none that I knew of! They told me somebody in the neighborhood called them saying there were lots of people around my house in my driveway and yard and said I was having a party.  I sort of laughed a little , I said there had been a party next door but it sure wasn't me having the party. They wanted to know if I was OK, and if the people inside were OK, I said yes. Then they left. And I went to bed.

The funny part of the story is, Lulu was sleep in her pillow and didn't wake up. Lizzie didn't see or hear anything. I went to Marvin's room when they knocked at the door and asked him if I should open the door, but he was also fast sleep and didn't answer and never heard  anything.

It was something different :)

Tomatoes

In February last year I planted 6 tomato plants, 3 heirloom 1 beefsteak and 2 celebrity. Around June they started to ripen and I had a pretty good yield. The snails and slugs ate some though.

When the crop ended  the gardener cleaned the area and I planted some flowers. Then around October I noticed some volunteer tomato plants coming up and I decided to let them grow to see if they would bear fruit. We had a lot of rain and they grew and had a lot of tomato flowers but they didn't set. I didn't take very good care of them because I didn't put the tomato  towers until they were pretty big, I think in March.

This time we had a  big problem with snails and slugs, and maybe some kind of rodent or birds, that would eat the tomatoes. For every 10 tomatoes about 6 were inedible with holes and bites :(    Regardless of it I picked quite a few, and I must say they are some of the juiciest, sweetest tomatoes I have tasted.

The mother of one of my ex students from Kinder, who is a FB friend, saw the pictures of the tomatoes and asked me if she could buy some. I told her she could come and pick them of course no charge. So yesterday she came with her kids. My kindergarten one is now a 9th grader and is taller than me!  They picked a whole bunch of tomatoes, more than i thought they were left, they also took some oranges. It was fun talking to her and to Jacob :)

Tomorrow the gardener will take the vines out and clean the area .  I will use the tomatoes to make salsa and pico de gallo. I will roast some with garlic  and some basil and will save them for soup or sauce. I will make gazpacho for lunch tomorrow, and also salmorejo later, and of course pa amb tomaquet! If there are any left, I will chop them and freeze them.

A quiet weekend

Saturday I was supposed to go to HB, but there was a miscommunication with N so I ended up not going. I just went to the Library and grocery shopping.  Then I went home and made  chicken soup from scratch, and picked some more tomatoes.

Yesterday the PT came and did some exercises with Marv, also practiced getting in and out of the bath bench. Next week was supposed to be the last week for home health care but they said they would probably come an extra week because he's still not at a 100%

Today when I woke up I saw it had rained last night, it was cloudy and cool all day. I made breakfast, bacon and eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy. In the afternoon he had his first full shower since he broke his hip. The bench worked well :)   We had some more soup for lunch. He's still not feeling too well, he has a stomach ache.

For dinner he said to order from Panda Inn and I went to get Panda beef and fried rice, but he was not feeling well and didn't have any.

I hope he feels better in the morning.

Introspection

I usually don't write about my emotions and feelings, I just keep those things to myself.

Well I should change the title of this post, because I realize it's true. I don't want to write about it.

May Recap

I talked about the first week in May on my previous post. So here's the rest of May:

May 8      Marvin's computer had a meltdown. Some online  hackers pretending to be Windows people screwed up the system. Had to call a technician to come and fix it.

May 11-12    In advance to Mother's Day, I got a yummy box of chocolate covered strawberries from Sandy, and a lovely flower basket and chocolates from Lizzie. Love my girls!

May 13     Coming home from dialysis, Marv  used his right foot to push the door open a little in the truck. In the evening he said he felt some pain.

May 14     Marvin was feeling pain most of the day, We said if he didn't feel better we'd go to the ER in the morning.

May 15     Still in pain, we decided to go to ER. Trying to get in the truck was awkward and painful to the point that I called 911. The firetruck, and ambulance came to the house. I said I needed help getting him in the truck. They tried but it was too painful, so it was decided they would take him to the ER and I would follow them. Luckily they agreed to take him to Kaiser Downey.  He was in a lot of pain, 8-9 out of 10. Was given morphine and in Xray they found his hip was broken. Was admitted to the hospital.

May 16    He had dialysis in the hospital in the morning, and surgery to repair the hip right afterward.
A very very long day.

May 17     After spending so many hours in the hospital, and feeling very stressed out. I kept my hair appointment. Frank was super nice and I had 3 glasses of wine, had my hair colored, cut and styled. It was nice to feel pampered. I think it was one of my best haircuts :)

May 18     I was surprised and frustrated that after dialysis at the hospital, he was discharged to a rehab place!

May 19     Rehab at Southland Home in Norwalk.   After  spending some time there on my way home I stopped by the school next door. One of my Jersey friends is the Principal there and she was so happy to see me, it made me feel good :)

May 20-26   In rehab.    Had dinner with Jennifer  5/23. It was very nice.

May 28-29   Lizzie came to visit. Told us all about the vacation she and Sandy had in Savannah, Georgia.  Showed me lots of pictures. It seems like they had a great time! :)

May 29        The Physical Therapist came to the house to do some exercises with Marv. They'll come  3 days a week.

May 31      Back to Kaiser for a post op visit with the Orthopedic doctor.  Marv is doing better but still has pain and needs to use the walker. He's learning to get dressed etc. by himself  :)

Tomorrow I will post the books I read and movies I watched in May.

First week in May

I've been somewhat stressed for the last couple of weeks, mainly because I was not feeling well, and  I was not very hungry and nothing tasted right. So On May 2nd I went to Portos and got me some treats, that cheered me up some. Then I've been wanting to go to the beach and get my feet wet but mainly just to get out of the house and my usual routine. I kept postponing for one reason or another. So on Saturday I made up my mind to go to Seal Beach.

I called Norbert to see if he wanted to meet me for lunch, and surely he said yes. That morning, as I was taking Marv to the clinic, it started raining! I  was going to call N and cancel, but then I said, heck I'm going, so I did.

Is only 28 minutes drive from the clinic to Long Beach. We went to have lunch at Acapulco, and because it was raining we sat inside. I had a coupon for an appetizer, so we had guacamole made at the table, I had tacos al pastor and he had carnitas. My Margarita was not the best one, I should have had a Cadillac!

After lunch we went for a drive to Seal Beach. I didn't get my feet wet but it was nice seeing the Ocean in the rain. Then we went to Gelson's and had the decadent chocolate bomb. It was so good.

It was nice getting out of La Mirada :)

When I went to pick up Marvin I noticed Norbert's wallet in my truck. It must have dropped when he was giving me my goodies for the day (1 pepsi, 1 bottle of water, 1 can of  piña colada. 1 small tube of toothpaste and 1 toothbrush). I called him and he said he would come in an hour to get it, and would stop by Home Depot to get batteries for my smoke alarms (they had been beeping annoyingly for a few days). And so he did.

I had not had time to make anything for dinner and asked Marv what he felt like eating, his choice was baked ziti from Agrusa so I ordered that and some stracciatella chicken soup for me. On the way out to get it, I stopped by my neighbor's to ask them to please turn off the outside lights
that shined on my room all night, happily he agreed to turn them off.

Today Sunday, Marv is still not feeling too well (will have a blood transfusion Tuesday) so I went grocery shopping . Then I took care of my garden and when it started raining with thunder and lighting, I decided to take a nap. We all did, including Lulu.

Tonight I watched a movie "A Dog's Purpose". I read the book a couple of years ago and I cried. I didn't want to watch the movie because I knew I would cry too, and so I did.

A long block about nothing really, I just felt like writing :)

A Poetry Month

I have very much enjoyed reading all the poems and Haikus Lizzie had been posting in her blog, and also the ones in the mail. Is not easy to write poetry, to expose your thoughts and words and ideas. I liked some of the ones not written by Lizzie, but hers talk to me, made me feel closer to her.

I will write one day about my mother love of poetry and how pleased she was that her grandaughter loved poetry too. But today I just want to  post a poem by Spanish poet Antonio Machado (born in Sevilla 1875), I really like one of his poems "Caminante no hay camino". It's been on mi mind a lot lately. A famous catalan singer Joan Manuel Serrat, put it to music and is beautiful. Here's the poem, And below is the  You Tube of the song.

Is hard to translate poetry I think, and keep the meaning. The poem is about making your own path and learning by your mistakes,

This is the whole poem   https://www.latino-poemas.net/modules/publisher2/article.php?storyid=1115
