March 19

Today was an important day: My grandson turned 18 years old!
We called him a sang Happy Birthday

March 19 is also my name day, San Jose.
We always had a big celebration at home because it was my mother's and mine Saint day.
So today I met Norbert in Long Beach for lunch.
First we drove around Long Beach, that city is growing a lot.
They are getting ready for the Grand Prix of LongBeach,
April 14-17
We drove around and took a picture in front of the Quen Mary and a big Cruise ship

And another picture in the Marina with a view of the city in the background

Afther that, we went to Acapulco, by the sea, and had fajitas and a Margarita.

After we ate I still had some time before picking up Marvin, and I wanted some dessert.
We stopped by Gelson's which is a great expensive supermarket with a great Deli and Bakery.
This is what I had. Is called Delice, and  it was AWESOME!
Now I finally know where to go when I want a great dessert not too far from home :)

It was a great day!

San Diego

On Sunday we took a little trip to San Diego.
Lizzie came on Friday night, then on Saturday she took Marv to dialysis and he received a blood transfusion as well. Lizzie and I went to Cha Cha's for lunch.
For dinner we all had Carl Jr. It was OK.
Sunday was DST, we wanted to leave to San Diego by 9, Lulu was excited to go bye bye. But mostly Marvin and I were really looking forward to go on a trip. It had been 4 years since we had last visited San Diego!

With Lizzie driving, and Lulu as a copilot,

we had a very nice drive down to SD. We stopped to see Jeff at his new studio. He has a very nice set up, it's quite spacious and he seems to like it a lot.
After that we drove on to Lizzie's house which is located in the San Diego State University area.
The area where she lives is very quaint, with nice houses and narrow streets. Her house has a nice front yard , with pretty flowers and a bunch of Spanish lavender.
We liked the house, is very light and airy, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, nice living area and a galley kitchen. It has a back porch with a table and chairs, and going down some steps there's a patio where the grill is, then there's 3 terraced gardens. Right now there's nothing planted because is a rental, but it has plenty of space for a flower garden, a vegetable garden etc. There's a daylight full basement (the one that flooded), a garage, and a shed. Lots of space. This is the view from the living room looking out to the back porch, a nice view, you can see the mountains in the background.

We had a nice lunch to go from a sandwich place I can't remember the name but it was good. We left around 4 and stopped at extraordinary dessert before going home, of course.

It was a nice day and it felt good to get out of the house. Marv was comfortable and enjoyed the trip, and so did I. Lulu was amazed at so many cars and lights, she was curious about everything, and she checked the house and the yard inch by inch :)

Lizzie spent the night with us and left very early on Monday to go to work. Thanks Lizzie for a nice weekend.

My favorite season

I love Spring! technically it starts on March 21st (20th in the US), but in Southern California this year spring started in mid February.

I planted 6 tomato plants mid February and they have grown a lot already, I have also planted seeds and flowers, and dead headed my geraniums that are now blooming beautifully. I will be taking pictures :)

Last night we had a big storm with thunder and lightning and heavy rain. Lulu was in her pillow but one time the lightning was very close and she sat up, I got up to go to the bathroom and she followed me back to my room and sat at the foot of the bed and sleep there all night.

Today we went to Marv's skin doctor for a check up, then we went to lunch at The Top Hat for huge pastrami sandwiches and fries. Wednesday we have the furnace repairman come , the furnace is not igniting and today was quite chilly and we bought logs for the fireplace to warm up. Thursday I'm taking Lulu to get her rabies shot at the La Mirada Park. She loves to go there and see all the dogs, she's the best behave one. I'm proud of her. The Friday I have podiatry for me in the morning and podiatry for Marv in the afternoon.

They are forecasting another big storm for the weekend. If it's raining we probably won't be going to San Diego, but hopefully it will be clear. I'll be talking to Lizzie about it, see if she's still planning on coming this weekend :)

February recap, yes a bit late

The main event in February was our 51st wedding anniversary. We celebrated it by going to dinner at the Black Angus, with our friend Norbert that was celebrating his 6oth birthday that same day.
Lizzie came over that weekend and brought us some of the delicious cake from San Diego :)

Also that same day, Feb 29th. I went to have my hair done. Is such a nice beautiful salon, and my stilist Frank is also the owner and he's very nice. But it still takes some effort for me to go to the hair salon,I enjoy it once I'm there with a glass of wine, but still is hard for me to sit down for any amount of time so I end up roaming around, this time playing with Lucy , Franks Yorkie puppy and salon mascot :)

Marv had a procedure done to his face and it was OK, We went for dinner a few times this month, I also went to vist my old school for a while and had lunch with my teacher's friends.

These are the books I read in February:

I really liked Kitchens of the Great Midwest, and How to Cook a Tart. I didn't like Marriage of Inconvenience.

I saw a couple of miovies but forgot to write the name down. I will look for it later :)

March

Even though February had one extra day, I didn't feel up to making a recap yesterday. I will do it tomorrow.

I went to my school a week ago, and when I got home I was not feeling so well, so guess what? I caught another cold. I went 4 years without even a cough, and then this year I already got sick twice . I need to take better care of myself.

Yesterday was strange, because I felt congested, my head hurt, and I was not feeling right. So I lay down and it was OK, but then I opened my eyes and the room was turning around. I blinked a couple of times and turned the other way, then I opened my eyes and it was fine, turned to the other side and again, opened my eyes and the room was spinning! It had never happened to me before (well the room was spinning quite a bit sometimes when I had too much to drink, but this was not the case now).

Today I feel OK. I stopped taking  my cold medicine because I was taking 2 different ones and I think maybe that's what was making me dizzy.

Tomorow I was supposed to go back to school and read books to some of the kinder and 5th grade classes (my last class I taught is already in 4th and 5th grade, but I had to cancel. I feel sad because I was looking forward to it.

Here's to a healthier March for all of us!
