Endeavour

This is how it looked flying over La Mirada about noon today.

This is not my picture, if I post my picture all you will see is the trail the plane left, because when I heard the  engine noise, and it was loud, I started to run to the front door, but first I went to get my camera, and then my sunglasses (it was very bright outside) then had to tell Lulu no she cannot come outside. By the time I finally went out all that was left was the smoke trail :(

Prior to that, I had taken Marvin to the dermatologist to have some skin cancer removed. I had read that the shuttle was going to fly right over where the hospital is (part of the shuttle was built in Downey and it was going to fly over it) So I went to the top floor of the hospital that has a nice view of the Space Center and Los Angeles and waited. Someone saw me looking and told me it was going to fly by in about an hour. So I went home hoping to see it from  there. By the way, when Marvin was having his procedure, the shuttle flew by and all the nurses ran to watch it, Marvin only had a glimpse of one of the jets that flew along the 747.

Everybody that saw it said it was an awesome sight!

Totally random post

Today I went to the dentist again. Had to get a permanent crown, plus he worked on another crown and other assorted painful procedures. Dentists are not my favorite people, although my dentist Dr. Cho is young and very knowledgeable and very kind. Right now my left cheek is all bruised, also my tongue and lips. I cannot open my mouth too far and they had to put something to make it open wider grrrrrrr.

Marvin is doing pretty good lately, he goes out in the garden and moves the hoses around and waters the lawn and sits with Lulu. We had an automatic garage door opener, because it was hard for us to lift the door manually, so much easier now :)   We also had a new garbage disposal installed, the old one had rusted and I found myself moping water in the kitchen one morning!

My tomatoes are done for the year, it was a pretty small crop. The tomatoes never sized, they were cherry tomato size. I think it may have been because the weather has been so hot. The peppers  are doing better.

Marvin went to the optometrist to get some glasses made, one for close and one for far. The insurance covered frames and lenses. Now, we both have exactly the same insurance, matter of fact, it is my insurance from the school which now is deducted from my retirement. However,  this same insurance, will not pay for my glasses! Go figure.

Talking about insurance, I read Mia's comments on going to the ER etc. That is what you get when you get socialized medicine. Just saying.

I have been trying to get rid of stuff, the other day I decided to sort my shoes. I got rid of 14 pairs some of them I had hardly worn at all, so they'll go to Goodwill. I am about to do the same with clothes, I have way too many things I haven't worn for years, time to get rid of them.
Norbert got back from his extended trip  to Hungary, Croatia, and France. He said he had a good time visiting with his brothers and siter, and meeting old friends. He went to see the town were he was born, and he said it is a dead town now, everybody left, his father's vineyards are now sunflower fields. But all in all he enjoyed the trip, especially Lourdes.

By the Danube River.

So that's about all for tonight. I am about to watch a movie, then take a Motrin and go to sleep.
Have a great week everybody!

La Diada

Passeig de Gracia - Gran Via

Today was Catalunya National Day, in catalan is called La diada.

Catalans are sick and tired of being told what to do by the Spanish government. they want independence (they have been wanting independence for a long long time), my father was all for it, he even went to secret meetings with other catalanists -during Franco's regime-. they could have been jailed had they been found.

Today, a lot of catalans, carrying catalan and catalan independence flags, gathered in Barcelona for a big demonstration. They came by bus and train from all over Catalunya, one and a half million strong! They sang Els Segadors, which is the catalan hymn, and marched peacefully and joyfully from the mountains to the sea. It was an amazing sight!   My cousin Fernando wrote me that he will be walking in the demonstration.
I followed a lot of it thru the Catalan TV online, they offered a live feed for catalans living abroad.

VISCA CATALUNYA!

September

Last Friday I met my teacher friends at Geezers, for the first after school happy hour. For what they told me, it will be the first of many, they need a drink after school (the principal agreed wholeheartedly!). It seems this year they are going to have large classes (up to 32 in Kindergarten). I still remember my favorite class of 15 :)

I ordered some food to go to take to Marvin for dinner, it was pasta carbonara, and also an apple cobbler. They were very good.

Talking about food, one of my wishes came true. I finally fopund a very nice bakery close by. It's a French/Korean bakery called "Paris Baguette".

http://www.parisbaguetteusa.com

They have really yummy stuff, some of them are a little different, like sweet potato danishes, and pastries with redbean filling. But the croissants and brioches and fruit tarts are really good.

It is in the corner of La mirada Blvd and Beach Blvd, where the old Pet Smart used to be. All that shopping center has become Korean. They have a huge supermarket next door, and it is really like being in a different country. All the signs are in Korean, and I didn't recognize hardly any of the groceries. They have lots of stalls that give you samples, but of course they were calling out in Korean and I understood nothing. I tried a couple of things, and to tell you the truth, I still don't know what I ate, it was neither good or bad, it was just different. They also had a big food court. I spent sometime there marveling at all the offerings. It's a huge store, almost warehouse like.

A little late, but Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Pet peeve

Actually, I have a couple of them.

Lately after I have been writing my blog, I use auto spelling, just in case. I had a couple of errors and when I went to delete them, the whole post was deleted, including pictures! Both times when it happened, I had written looong posts, after they got deleted I didn't write them over again because I was upset. I don't know what I was doing wrong.

The other pet peeve is, when I write a comment in Sandy's, or Lizzie's or Mia's blog, I have to write a number and some letters (to show I'm not a robot?!) Well 9 times out of 10 I cannot read the damn mixed up letters, and I have to keep guessing, and sometimes I finally get so annoyed that I just don't comment! Has it ever happened to you?

On to better things. This weekend Lizzie came over, we talked about her trip to Utah. I am so glad my 2 kids get along so well :) We went out to lunch to Taps, I had a $50.00 gift card I got for Christmas from one of my students about 3 years ago lol. It was good. Then for dinner we had take out from Geezers.

Speaking of Geezers, a few days ago I met some of my teachers friends for Happy Hour. It was nice, but I am glad I am not working now, since the classes in kindergarten have gone up to 312 children, way too many for a teacher with no aides. It was fun listening to them bitching and complaining hee hee.

Well I am not going to risk having this post deleted so I am going to post it as is. Have a good week!!!

August recap

This month I made several appointments for myself.
August1, had a general check up, all is well. My diabetes is well controlled :)
August 10, I had my hair colored, cut and styled, nice.
August 22, Dentist appointment,  xrays and check up.
August 28,  Back to the dentist.  He always find trouble spots. This time it was supposed to be a simple filling but ended up a crown. Also had to have a deep cleaning of the gums, painful! I have a huge bruise in my lower right jaw.
He just did my right side, next appointment 2 more crowns and deep cleaning of the left side.
August 31, went to the podiatrist. My feet look great now and there were no major issues :)

Marvin's brother and sisters came to visit at the beginning of the month. They of course brought Petey, he looked a bit raggedy.

I had fun watching the Olympic Games from London!!!!

Marvin had a bad day on Tuesday, August 7th. I had to call 911, he was taken to the ER in Whittier Community Hospital, and was transferred to Kaiser Irvine where he stayed in observation for 24 hours.

Sandy had knee surgery on August 13th. All went well and she's in her way to recovery!  Lizzie went to stay with her for a week. Lizzie came to La Mirada the first 3 weekends of the month. It's always nice and helpful to have her around :)
Tristan started 9th grade on August 27th. I hope he does as well as he did in 8th grade. He's a smart boy!!! :)

Books I've read this month:
Elizabeth Adler - From Barcelona, with Love
Barbara Taylor Bradford - 3 weeks in Paris
Brian O'Reilly - Angelina's Bachelors
Liza Palmer - More like her
Anita Hughes - monarch beach
Meredith Mileti - Aftertaste
Katie Fforde - Wedding Season

Here's to a good September!
