August Wrap Up

Best thing about August was having Tristan staying with us for a while. We really love having him here! Then of course we also had Sandy and Lizzie for the weekend, and is always great when we are all together. Only bad thing was Lizzie getting sick on Sunday with a migraine.

This month I went out to lunch a couple of times with Jennifer, and I also had dinner on Wednesday with my next door neighbor Amy, we both were in need of a Cadillac Margarita!

Another positive is that Marvin has been feeling pretty good this month, just this last week had a touch of bursitis in his elbow, but seems to be getting better.

We have also bought a new patio fountain and is very melodious, I can't wait for the birds to find it and bathe in it! Marvin and I put it together, and then I helped the gardener positioned it in the right place.

Unfortunately, the sad thing is what's going on with Norbert. He's become paranoid and things everybody is out to get him, especially his sister. They absolutely don't get along, he complains she doesn't feed him, and wishes she would go home. She hired a caretaker to be with him 24/7 but yesterday she fired him . She's extremely tight with money and that's something that totally annoys me because I think if he's at home, there should be somebody with him 24/7 only somebody strong, that would help him, and also a person to come a few days a week to cook and clean. And an apartment manager. But it's not going to happen. It aggravates me that I don't have any say at all.
His sister is unable to cope with the way he is, they are both depressed and upset, and just not getting along. I don't know what's going to happen with the Filipino girl, I think his sister is going to talk him out of it. He also is saying he probably won't live much longer and if he does get better he's going to sell everything and move to an island . I go visit him once in a while but is hard for me because is impossible to reason with either one and it leaves me very frustrated. We talked on the phone a few times a week and some days he sounds more rational than others. Next week they are going to the neurosurgeon and maybe they will get some answers. I think he has not been himself since he got back from his trip, he started acting a little different, but having the fall really made things a ton worse. We'll see.

I must say I am very lucky because I am not a person that gets depressed or stressed too much, once in a while I have a small meltdown but it doesn't last long. So I am coping well with everything for the most part, I think :)

This is a list of books I read in August:

Lovehampton by Sherry Rifkin
A Wedding in Provence by Ellen Sussman :)
The Brides of Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber
Mr. Maybe by Jane Green :(
Doing it at the Dixie Dew by Ruth Moose
Save the date by Mary Kay Andrews :)

And the movies I watched:

Chef (2014) :)
La Cage Doree (2013) French/Portuguese
Moms Night Out (2014)
The Lunchbox (2014) Indian
The Longest Week (2014)
Enfin Veuve (2007)
Are you here (2013) :(
Life of Crime (2014)

Looking forward to Fall!

And so it goes

I haven't written for a few days because there's not so much to tell.

Mainly is the ongoing saga with my friend. And I really don't want to bother you with all the details, suffice to say that things are getting worse, among other things, he's developing a paranoid personality disorder which makes it very hard especially for his sister and me.

On Thursday I went out to lunch with Jennifer, and then we went to Jersey School, since school starts the 27 I was going to help set up the room, but ended up not doing it and talking to other teachers and just hanging around.

On Friday, Marvin and I went to Home Depot and bought a new fountain for the garden, the old one had stopped working, pump malfunction, and we thought it better to just buy a new one. The gardeners will come next week and help us set it up since it is too heavy for us to lift.

Happy Belated Anniversary Sandy and Marty!

I am so sorry I didn't congratulate you on your 21st Anniversary. There's been so much stuff going on that I lost track of time. I hope you had a nice day and I wish you many many more happy ones! :)

Love you,
Mama

He's home

Today I went to Huntington Beach to see N and find out how he's getting al now that he's back home. I got there around noon, and some friends were visiting. I knew them and said hello. Pretty soon N started ranting about his sister, how she's good for nothing, how she never does anything right etc. He said she should go back to Las Vegas because she's doing nothing good being here, and on and on. He still doesn't remember being in the first and second hospitals, he thinks Eva made that up. I totally understand he's still not being himself, but he was downright obnoxious and rude, with me too. He was mad because Eva had not been paying his bills and messed everything, then turned to me and said I should have taken care of it. I tried to explain that I couldn't do that because it was not my place to do it, and besides I cannot write his checks and sign them, like Eva can. So he said we are both dumb and too old to know anything. Really I had to keep repeating to myself that he's sick.

He was nice to the other people and acted semi normal with them. After they left he wanted the four of us to go have lunch (his Filipino caregiver is staying in the house), N said he couldn't eat the $hit his sister makes.he asked me if I had any coupons and I said no, so he told Eva to get some from the newspaper. The only thing I saw was a coupon for Pollo Loco, and he said no because it was too expensive! So with Eva driving we went out to eat. I chose a place that has 5 different restaurants (Mexican, Fish, Thai, Chinese and sandwiches) and outdoor tables so everybody could eat what they wanted and sit together, but he was acting so annoying -telling Eva to turn, no this way, slower, faster, you're going to run over people, stop at the red light..blah blah over and over that I decided to stop at a Mexican place that was close to his home. Of course he said the food was horrible, told Eva she had to pay for sall of us, then said what I had ordered (chimichangas) was too expensive, so I ordered just a taco rather that hearing him go on and on.

After lunch, they were going to Kaiser to get a prescription, then to church. I asked Eva to drive me back home so I could get my car, because no way in hell I was going to go driving with them and listening to all the bickering.

I certainly hope that this is temporary and that he will become more like himself soon. It's like everything that was annoying about him (being super picky, cheap with money, obsessed with the Filipino girl etc) has been magnified 100 times, and his good points (friendly, nice, helpful, caring) have all but disappeared. It is sad, I feel so bad for Eva, I feel bad for him because he cannot help it, but I am upset too. Let's hope time works its magic.

Busy time

I haven't written for a few days or done an update. So here it goes.

I enjoyed having Tristan here, we talked a lot and enjoyed his company, then Sandy and Lizzie came and I was happy to have them here, Lizzie got a bad migraine on Sunday and that was sad :(  then Monday morning we went to the airport and Sandy and Tristan flew back home. So is back to just the two of us, and Lulu that wondered where everybody went.

Now about Norbert...he is now in a nursing home in Santa Ana, last time I saw him he was at Kaiser in Anaheim. Today I went to see him, of course Eva was there. He was more aware and he seems to have some selective memory, some things he remembers, something he does not. He seemed pretty aware of where he was, but seems to have forgotten he was in a hospital and therefore he doesn't remember me being there or Eva or any of other friends that went to see him.

He was very rude to Eva, he said -and she was sitting right there- that she doesn't do anything, or help him in any way, and that I should drive her back to Las Vegas!? He remembers Crista and says they are going to get married, but is going to take 4 months (at least) and he loves her, blah blah. Her uncle was there yesterday and brought the iPad so he could talk to the girl and have a face to face. Eva was extremely upset about it, because he waited til she left before doing the iPad thing. She dislikes him and the whole thing and blames him and Crista for what happened to Norbert. He had been biking from Huntington Beach to Long Beach almost every day day (20 miles each way), and dieting, so he could be in top shape for her. The day he fell he had done the bike trek and had not had breakfast, so he may have fainted.

Anyway, he's going home tomorrow. Acaretaker (a Filipino man) is going to move in the house, and Eva is going to be there too at least until October, depending on how he's doing. He's so ready to go home, but he's very weak, has lost a lot of weight, and clearly he's still not himself. I think he's going to give Eva a hard time, and viceversa. She babies him too much and also she's mad about him still wanting to get together with "his wife". Plus both of them are worried about, what else? MONEY. That bothered me, that should be the last of their worries. I said I would go visit on Friday, see how he did the first day.

Tomorrow I'm having lunch with Jennifer.

You all take care. Love you!

Shopping

Today I went shopping with Tristan, actually he did most of the shopping. We went to Barnes and Noble and looked around for a long time. He chose a couple of TV shows...now when it was time to pay, he takes out his wallet, and takes a couple of 20's from his stack, and paid for it! The kid is growing up! I was excited!

After that we went to Target. I had to get a couple of things, and he went to look around. After a while we were ready to check out. He got some more TV shows, i think. He got in front of me at the checkout and put his purchases on the line and I put my stuff next to it. The checker asked if it was together and Tristan said no, this is mine. And I'll be darn if he didn't pay for it again :)

I told him he's now a grown up and pretty soon he'd even be paying for my stuff lol. He gave me a smile and said, well I've been thinking I want to order some things from Amazon, and that'll be your gift to me LOL.
Tomorrow he's going with Marv to Best Buy or whatever and get something. Marv didn't feel too well yesterday when they had planned to do some shopping and today he had pretty bad leg cramps, so we'll see how he's doing tomorrow.

For dinner, we had pizza and boneles chicken from Domino's at Tristan's request.  I don't think I ever had pizza from them. He told me he wanted the one with meat, so I ordered online and went toi pick it up. He was sort of confused when he saw the pizza. I had ordered thin crust and they cut it in little squares and triangles. I don't thin k he was expecting that. I am not a fan of pizza.

I am now going to watch "Chef"

5 star hotel? no!

Today I went to visit N at the new hospital in Anaheim. It's big, new, and awesome. The lobby compares to a high class hotel, it even has a grand piano. The reception is nice and everything is new and sparkling clean. All room are single with a bathroom. N is in ICU and has a large room with a window from ceiling to floor with a nice view of trees and sky. I also went to the Cafeterian and is large and well appointed. I was impressed, the floors are all so shinyt I was afraid I was going to slip and slide.

N was awake and of course Eva was there. I asked him if he knew who I was and he said yes, Josefa Perello Wann, it was funny. He can sit up and walk unsteadily to the bathroom, he eats well (spoon fed by Eva much to my annoyance, she treats and talks to him like a baby). He doesn't remember what happened yet and when I was leaving I said that I'd be back in a few days and he said he wouldn't be ther, he said he'd be home. The nurse in charge said there's nothing physically wrong, is all in his head so he may not be elegible for a nursing home because it's mainly for physical rehab. They advised to take him to an assisted living place, or home with a caretaker. He needs somebody to be with him 24/7 for as long as it takes which is hard to say how long in trauma cases. I think Eva is going to retire and hire a caretaker to help with him.
In an ironic twist. The caretaker might well be a Filipino woman that was recommended by N's neighbor Tom, the fireman :)

At home things are going well. T came to my room last night and he talked for well over an hour :). Tomorrow he wasnt to go to Barnes and Noble and that's what we'll do

I loved looking at the pictures Sandy posted in FB, great! BTW I heard on the radio that people going to the concert need to be there early because of lack of parking, they said anybody that gets after 4 will have to park at least a mile away. Sandy did you get tickets for the shuttle? Did you look for a Motel?

It'll be so nice to have the girls and grandson with us this weekend :) How about you Mia, want to come over? is not as hot as in Sweden! ;)

Going to bed now, I am pretty tired. Love you all.

This is August

Marvin and I are very happy to have Tristan with us :)
After picking him up at the airport we all took a nap, then went to El Cholo for lunch (and for a very much needed Margarita for me)
I made mac'n'cheese and croquetas for dinner, he ate 10.
Saturday, after I took Marv to dialysis, we went to do some shopping for him, snacks and drinks etc. Then we went to Chipotle, he loves those chicken tacos!
For dinner we had lasagna from Agrusa, wel Marv and Tristan did. I shared an antipasto with Marv.
Tomorrow is Panda Inn.

Today it rained a little!

Tristan is happy with Marv's new Toshiba Chrome that I got him for his birthday, because is faster than the old laptop. He's also watching movies in the big TV in his room. He says it's a super good picture like 3D.

Lulu is happy to have more people around :)

I sent an email to you letting you know the latest about Norbert. What a sad situation :(

Looking forward to a better August!!!!

July's Review

The month started very well,
7-2  I went to lunch with my neighbor Amy, she's so nice and has the cutest children.
7-7 I went with Norbert to eat at El Torito, to the beach, and then to his house to help him learn how to use Yahoo mail, and to set up Google Chrome.
7-9 Lunch with Marvin at the Fish Company.
The next day Lizzie came and stayed for a long weekend. Relaxing.
7-18 Had my hair cut and colored, my stylist is leaving the salon. Grrr. She's going to start her own., in San Clemente.
7-19 Sandy and family left for a nice vacation in Isla Mujeres.
7-20 We had a fly invasion. I don't know where they came from but they were all over the kitchen, living room, and my room. It was awful!
7-23 Marvin had an eye appointment, it's all good.
7-24 I went with Norbert to eat at Mimi's Seal Beach, then walked all the way to the end of the Seal Beach pier. Of course 95% of the conversation was about his "fiancee" and how things are coming along, He haa a pretty big disagreement with his sister in France and was prety upset about it.
7-25 to Maggie's Pub with Marvin. Norbert's sister Eva asked me if I knew where Norbert was.
7-26 Where is Norbert? Nobody has heard from him!
7-27 I went to Huntington Beach. Checked his house. He had a plate of strawberries out which were covered in mold. He also had left the iPad he uses to call the girl. Hmmmm. Eva is ready to come down and call the police and report him as missing. I went home. Shortly after I got home his neighbor called me that
the police came by her house to say he was in ICU in a hospital.
I drove to the hospital and he was unconscious (I wrote about it in the blog although is hard to read).

I will update the latest in tomorrows blog post.

This month I read 7 books and watched 9 movies, 2 US, 1 French, 6 from Spain.

End of month review will be late

I will post my end of month review tomorrow. I got some help from the forum and it seems to be working OK.

We are going to pick up Tristan at 7:30AM, he's going to spend a week with us :)

I will write the latest about N. He's been transfered to a Kaiser Hospital in Anaheim, he's awake and talking but not sure about where he is or why. He has no memory of the fall. He recognizes me and his sister, and all he wants is to go home. He doesn't realize the extent of his injury. I will keep you updated if the blog works  fine.

Hmmm I cannot put a picture now, strange.
