Tristan :)

We are so happy to have Tristan coming to spend a few days with us. Marvin and I went to pick him up at the airport, and stopped at McDonalds for dinner (his choice). Lulu, of course, was besides herself with joy! She jumped and peed all over. I told Tristan to go outside and play with her a little or else she would have baptized the whole house! This morning I took Marvin to dialysis, and went back home. Tristan didn't get up till noon then stayed in bed a while longer playing with Lulu. Later we went to Stater to get some groceries (and 4 movies). I asked him what he wanted for dinner, he chose spaghetti. We were going to Chipotle for lunch, but it was getting time to go pick up Marvin so we just snacked on ham and cheese and pickles and chips.
In the afternoon, Marvin and Tristan went outside and sat in the galin-galan and talked and enjoy the nice weather, Lulu played by the aprinklers. After dinner, Tristan decided to get a little dip in the Jacuzzi. Tristan is such a nice boy, polite and very pleasant to be around :) I am proud to be his gramy!!!!

It's Official!

Yes, I am hard of hearing! Not a big surprise here, but today I went to the audiology doctor, and she made some tests and confirmed that I have some severe loss of hearing in some areas.

I can hear all kind of noises very well, vacuum cleaner, dog barking, normal 1 to 1 conversation, etc etc. Among other things, I  have some problems  hearing a conversation in noisy places, like restaurants, parties, etc.

Interestingly enough, is mainly in English where I have a hearing problem, but not in Spanish. The doctor explained it has to do with the lenght of the words.

She said it's a permanent loss, cannot be recovered by surgery or medication, but it can be helped with a hearing aid. She said I can hear well enough now but at some later point I may think about getting one.

I had lots of earaches when I was little and I kept on having them well into adulthood. That obviously contributed to my hearing loss.

So, when you write some comments, make sure  to write in capitals so I can hear them LOL!!!!!  :D

Independence Day

We had a very quiet 4th of July. I did some gardening, and played with Lulu and cooked all day. Waffles and bacon for breakfast, farfalle with marinara sauce for lunch, and herb crusted loin of pork with roasted potatoes and salad. For dessert triple chocolate brownies and cherries.

Marvin was feeling OK all day, but in the evening he got cold and went to bed early. He had some problems where he gets dialysis in his arm and it was bleeding quite heavily and I had to change his bandages 3-4 times because it got blood soaked, it was a bit worrisome.  I hope he feels better in the morning.

After dark, the fireworks started in the neighborhood. I turned off the lights and sat on my recliner with Lulu. She was pretty good, she didn't bark or freak out. Last year I watched the neighbors' fireworks display in the Jacuzzi, but I felt I had to sit with Lulu, just in case.

Norbert called me before leaving to the airport. I think he is pretty excited. He has not been back to Hungary in 30 years! He will meet his 2 brothers in Budapest and also go to his hometown, and maybe to Croatia. He will fly to Paris on August 15, and meet his sister and family. He wants to go to Lourdes, and walk around Paris (where he lived a few months before coming to the US), his sister has a beach house in Palavos in the Riviera and probably will spend a few days there too. He will be back to the States on September 5th.

I will miss him. He has been very helpful since Marvin got sick, not only doing some repairs around the house and garden, but also taking me out for lunch, driving me around and just being a good listener. He's a good friend :)

I hope he has a great time in Europe!!!

Independence Day

We had a thick marine layer this morning and it was pretty cool. Marvin and I enjoyed the waffles and breakfast I cooked.
I worked in the garden a little and played with Lulu, the bell peppers are getting too heavy for the pot they are in and I don't know if they will make it. So fat there's about 6 peppers but not too big, we'll see.
I had a shower, then I fixed lunch, farfalle with marinara meat sauce for Marvin and a grilled ham and cheese sandwich for me. We also had sweet cherries for dessert.
In the afternoon I fixed brownies (Marvin said they smelled wonderful), and started working on dinner, herb crusted pork loin with roasted potatoes, and salad.
I took a nap and so did Marvin,by then the weather had warmed up and it was very sunshiny, I took Lulu for a little walk. Then we had dinner.
Marvin started getting very cold and had to be covered with a blanket. He had been having problems with some bleeding in his arm (from where he gets dialysis) and I had to change the bandages about 3-4 times because it got blood soaked, it was a little worrisome.
By this time the fireworks in the neighborhood started flashing and Lulu was freaking out a little. Marvin went to bed and I turned off the lights and sat on my reclining chair with Lulu and watched some of the neighbors fireworks behind our house. I have watched them from the Jacuzzi last year, but because of Lulu I decided just to stay with her. She was a good pup and didn't bark or freak just sat nicely on my lap and went to sleep.

Norbert called me in the afternoon as he was getting ready to go to the airport. It's been about 30 years since he was in Hungary. I think he was excited to go, he will stay in Hungary and visit his brothers in Budapest and go to his hometown etc. then on Ausgust 15th he will go to Paris to see his other sister, he wants to go to Lourdes, and also to the Riviera where her sister has a beach hours in Palavos. He will be back to the States on September 5.
I will miss him. He's been a big help since Marvin got sick, not only helping around the house when things needed to get done, but also listening to me and taking me out for lunch, etc. Just being a good friend.
I hope he has a wonderful time in his vacation!!! :)
