Flowers, veggies, herbs...

I love Spring, it's my favorite season. This year because of the rain, everything looks green and flowers are blooming, and is just beautiful!

I wish we could go see the wild flowers blooming in the California desert, or mountains, I read is one of the best years to see them  http://www.desertusa.com/wildflo/ca.html

I have been buying  flowers, and herbs and vegetables, and planted them around the fountain, Bending down and carrying stepping stones, and digging holes made my body pretty sore, I guess I'm not use to physical labor so much. So I was thinking it would be easier for me to be abkle to plant stuff on a raised surface, I talked to Marv about it, we discussed how he could build one of those raised beds easily when he was a few years younger, b\ he build a lot of things for the garden in front and in the backyard, but now it gets a little harder.  So I looked online and found a good raised planter. At first I was thinking of a 2x8, but finally I decided to start slow and  will be getting a 2x4

I will plant tomatoes, peppers hot and sweet, beans, onions, and some herbs. It won't hurt my back and I can just put it wherever I want (I think next to the shed).. I will take pictures and give updates. I'm pleased with the purchase :)

This is a Commercial

Around Christmas time, Marv mentioned a pan he saw at Sam's, I checked it out but it was pretty expensive and I thought we had plenty of pans (I have a set of 3 that I have never used yet)

Mid February, I went to Big Lots! formerly known as Pic'n'Save to get some flower pots because Spring is coming and one needs to be prepared. I was looking around and I saw a pan display, it was THE pan!!!  because our Anniversary was in a couple of days, I decided to surprise him with a pan (yes very romantic) and I read someplace copper was one of the gifts for that particular anniversary. The pan was $20 but it was on sale for $16, bargain. I bought the 10" one.

It is the best pan I've bought!!!! We love it. We use them for everything, it can even go in the oven. Nothing sticks to it. I went back to the store and bought the square one, It had a coupon for $10 to be redeemed at the website, I wanted a lid for the square pan and they sold it online for $10, with my coupon I only paid $5 for S&H

Lizzie saw it when she was here, but I had not really used it yet, so I didn't say much about it.

I told Norb and he went and bought the 12" one, he loves it too.

I absolutely recommend it. They still have it at Big Lots! you save on S&H or you can get it online. Check it out:

PS Sandy, I watched  French Kiss last night, I had never seen it before, can you believe it?

A couple of pictures

I don't remember where I saw this picture but I really liked it, it's one of my favorite places in Barcelona. I used to go there often when I was a teen, close to the Cathedral, I always made up stories about who used to live there and pictured myself in one of those windows a la Rapuntzel with my hair hanging down:

Then looking  back to the last  trip I took with the girls, I saw a picture of myself in front of the same area, only in the opposite side. It was in color and there were a lot of tourists all around. So I did some PSP and turned the color into gray, and tried to get rid of some of the tourists.

Just having a little fun :)

My why

I read Sandy's post about weight. Gaining and losing.  I saw M's comment and Lizzie's comment. So I will write what I think about it.

I was a chubby baby, but during my growing up years and looking at pictures I was just a regular size, neither fat or skinny.

As a teen I was pretty thin, had a tiny waist and I usually didn't wear a bra until I was about 17-18.
Then I filled up a little, just a little rounder but still thin. I was never on a diet, I walked a lot, I was always busy and I ate at regular hours, I can't remember having snacks in between meals. Just light breakfast, big lunch, and light dinner. My father was rather portly as he got older, but my mother always weighed the same, if she gained a kilo she would eat less until she lost the kilo. She always weighed 130 lbs.

Then I got married and came to the US. My meals hours changed drastically. Even though I didn't drive, I didn't walk very much either. When Marv went to work I stayed home, watch TV and snacked a lot. I discovered fast food (George's Orange), I also  ate at my in laws a few days a month, and they always had a lot of food around, and pies, and cookies.  I put on some weight  but my way of transportation was my bike so at least I did some exercise.

When I got pregnant with Sandy, of course I put on weight, that was way before google and smart phones. My family was in Spain, so I really didn't know much about how much weight to gain etc. so after she was born I joined a group called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and I found myself the thinner one in the group, so I didn't have a lot of motivation to lose weight since everybody in the group was wondering why I was even there. If you gained weight in your weekly weigh in they gave you a big ceramic pig to display in your front yard! If you lost weight, once a month when we'd go out to have dinner as a group, and  they would pay for your meal.

Then we moved to Idaho and I was pretty bored there since I didn't know anybody and there was nothing much to do, so I gained some more weight when I got pregnant with Lizzie. I wasn't fat but I was borderline. Little by little I gained weight, but it really didn't bother me too much.

But the times we took a vacation to Spain, that's when I realized I had put weight and was fat. . At least according to my mother and my sister Nuri. It was upsetting to me that they always talked about how heavy I was and how nice and thin I used to be. Oh well.

So I went to ISU and got my teaching degree. I  knew I was heavier than I had been. I have started diets but never followed therm for any amount of time.

Back in California, I think I was at my heaviest, but it has never bothered  me that much. I basically only  really noticed I was fat when I saw pictures of myself. I have to admit I liked being thinner than fatter, but I have not a lot of will power when it comes to watching what I eat and what I eat.

I lost a lot of weight when I was diagnosed  with diabetes. I think drinking 5-6 Pepsis a day might have had something to do with it, And here I am now, older but not wiser when it comes to eating. I still enjoy eating, just don't eat as much as I used to. I know I need to stay away from too many sweets, and I need to exercise, at least walking Lulu around the block, but I am also lazy and spend a good amount of time just sitting reading, or in the computer.

Now the weather is nice and Spring is my favorite season, so I will try to go walking with Lulu daily :)

PS I would put some pictures but they come sideways and it annoys me!

February Recap

This has been a month of rain, and some big events, Sandy's good knee recovery, and a visit from Lizzie with cake :)

The events were...

Our 52nd Wedding Anniversary  (unfortunately both of us were battling a cold so we didn't go anywhere)
The Superbowl (NE won over Atlanta, in a great game)
The Oscars  (With an interesting ending) I only saw LaLa Land and Manchester by the Sea -not very interested in the other nominees-
President Trump's first speech to Congress  (I thought it was a good speech)

And here are the movies I watched this month:

And the books I read:

Here's hoping March is a good month for all of us
