The end of June, time for a recap!

This month I went to the dentist twice and got 2 crowns.
I enjoyed Sandy's birthday surprise, good one Lizzie!
Got a (expensive) traffic ticket :(
Went to Jersey school for the last day of school and also last day for our principal and friend Monica who is going to a different school next year.
Had my hair cut, colored and styled. I'm somewhat blonder now.
Invited my friend Jennifer to stay with us for a few days and helped her get thru some bad times.
Was "entertained" by all the police activity in the neighborhood
Celebrated with Norbert his purchase of a new  home, a chalet in Mt Charleston, near Las Vegas.
My garden looks great, lots of tomatoes coming up too!
Enjoyed going with Marvin out to eat a couple of times. He's been feeling a lot better lately :)

I have seen a few movies that I liked:

Warm Bodies...a Zombie movie that I very much enjoyed
The English Teacher...an Indie movie with Julianne Moore
In Another Country...a Korean French movie with Isabelle Huppert
Love is All you Need...a Danish/Italian/English movie

And my book list for the month:

Kathleen McCleary - a simple thing

Carol Higgins Clark - Cursed

MaryKay Andrews - Ladies Night

maria murnane - honey on your mind

Kathleen McCleary - House and Home

Was sad to hear about the passing of Mia's mother. May she rest in peace.

Things happen, part 2

I was watching a movie in my computer (The English Teacher with Julianne Moore, a 2013 film  presented at the Tribeca Festival, and I quite enjoyed). It had just finished watching it when I heard a helicopter flying overhead, which happens once in a while. I wondered what it was about..the sound was getting closer and noisier so I went outside, and the  bright searchlights were making my front yard quite bright, it downed on me they were looking for someone or something right in my neighborhood, so I went inside and locked the doors.

I kept looking thru the window and pretty soon I see police cars driving down the street. And surprise! they stopped in front of Robert's house. The helicopter had the search lights illuminating the house. It was almost like daytime although it was past midnight.

Marv woke up and I filled him on what was going on, he got some water and went back to bed. Lulu and I stayed up watching. I had parked my Mustang across the street at John and Evelyn's driveway because Wednesday is street sweeping day and they are on vacation. Then I saw some of the police checking some cars, so I decided to go out and talk to the police. I went out and asked what was going on? they said nothing to worry about, so I told them the red Mustang was mine, they said OK thanks. I asked again what's happening, and they said nothing is going on, I sassily replied..yeah right! and went back inside.

After a while, they got a guy arrested and put in one of the patrol cars, then a girl, they put her in another patrol car. Then out com es Robert pretty excited, gesturing wildly at the police. He had a car parked in his driveway covered with a blue tarp and the police took the cover off and some discussion ensued.  This all lasted for about one more hour, around 2AM they left the people out of the patrol cars, and the police left and everybody went back home. And Lulu and I went to sleep.

This morning, a tow truck came to get the car that was under the blue tarp. Robert and the girl and another men came outside. I crossed the street to get the Mustang and called Robert to come talk to me which he did. I said hey Robert what the hell is going on? he said, well we got some excitement last night, I said no kidding. He told me that his business is doing car auction which is why I always see different cars around, and one car got into an accident and was reported stolen. So the police came to check it blah blah (I personally think they could have done it with a lot less fanfare) I don't know if that was the reason, but that's what he told me. I said the neighborhood was worried about the going ons, and there were lots of rumors going around. He asked me what kind of rumors, and I said, well they think drugs are involved, and maybe porno film making..he laughed and  said OMG I'm famous!!! then he assured me there was nothing going on, just a  bunch of misunderstandings.

So we'll see. It is interesting to me that nobody ever gets arrested! so who knows!
It sure was an exciting night!

PS The man was wearing shorts and a tank top, he looked fine!

A week in June

I have not written much lately because I have been been pretty busy.

Last week it was the end of the school year and I went to a couple of activities at Jersey. Next year, they will move the principal Monica, who is also a good friend, to a different school in the district. She was upset and so was the staff. Then they had the end of year luncheon at BJ's and it was fun to be around all my teacher friends . Then Lizzie came over in the weekend for Father's Day, and it's always good when she's around. We had a good weekend :)

My friend Jennifer called me on Mondayt and she was really upset, so I asked her to come and stay with us for a few days till she gets things straightened up. We spent 3 days talking non stop (well she did most of the talking), On Wednesday I didn't go to sleep til 4:30AM!  She left on Friday to go spend the weekend with her parents.

Friday I went to have my hair cut and colored and highlighted, it came out really cute, unfortunately it never stays like that for too long since I have absolutely no talent taking care of it.

Saturday I went to lunch with Norbert at Acapulco in Long Beach, then we drove around and it was such a nice 1st day of Summer day, the sky was blue, it was nice and warm with a breeze. Very enjoyable. I went to bed at 10, earliest I've been to bed in a long time!

At home, Marvin has been feeling good and done some work outside, my flowers are blooming, my tomatoes are ripening, and the cactus bloomed too!

Things happen

We live in a nice quiet town. Low crime, nice well kept houses, beautiful parks, etc.

Last night, around 11PM, we heard some loud noises, BAM BAM  (no, no gun shots!). I looked out the window and something was going on at the house across from us.  I have written before about the cute nice guy that bought it, and how there always are a lot of expensive cars, and cute girls going in and out.

There were about 4 big SUV's parked in front of their house, with men coming out of it, some of them using a kind of ram to push the front door open -that accounted for the BAM noise- the men were carrying heavy duty flash lights. I put the leash on Lulu and walked outside to see what was going on. My next door neighbor was outside too and I went to talk to him. He told me he and his wife and kid were just coming home when some of the men came to talk to him and told them to get inside the house, because that was a drug bust! all the men in the SUV's were plainclothes police.

I went back inside too, but kept on looking out. At some point they had some of the people out by the garage with their hands up, another time it looked like they were doing something to one of the cars parked in the driveway, etc. It was close to 2AM when the big SUV's left.

This morning. The door of the house across the street had been broken, also the side window. I talked to several of the neighbors. It seems the police didn't find any drugs, just $1100 in cash, they didn't arrest anybody. But they totally trashed the house, the bedorroms were torn apart, clothes flying out of the window, the silver car in the driveway  had the upholstery torn apart etc.  The owner said to his next door neighbor that they were looking for the previous owner's daughter. Who knows!   All the neighbors think there's something going on, be it drugs or something else.

All I know is he's always been nice and friendly to us. But there's definitely something off about the whole set up. I'll keep you posted....

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Wednesday night I didn't go to sleep till about 4 AM. I had a cricket in my room! I closed the door and went after it and it kept on  jumping and crawling on the bed, and hiding...there's no way in hell i could sleep with that bug around. Finally i thought I got it with my show, and sighed with relief, but noooooooooooooooo! he was just playing dead. Finally after several attacks I got it and  grind it under my shoe for xtra measure. Of course then I had to change the sheets and shake the covers, and even so it took me a long while to fall sleep.

The next day I took Marvin to dialysis, and then I drove to Sam's to get gas. Then I went to Sam's to get some protein bars and some kettle corn. I still had to go to Stater to buy groceries, but thought maybe I would go nap first.

So I drive down Beach Boulevard, and make a right turn to Rosecrans. Thru my rear view mirror I see a motorcycle cop with lights flashing and I pull over, thinking he is after someone...and he sure was...ME!!!!!

He parks the motorcycle right in front of the pickup, comes to my window and asks for my license, he also asked my what year was the truck, of course I had no idea at the moment. I politely asked him if my license was expired or something since I had no idea why he stopped me. He said...you made a right turn on a red light without making a FULL stop!  I said..I beg to differ...he said "Huh"? and wrote me a ticket.

I can't honestly remember if I made a full stop or not (when Marvin heard about it he said, it had to happen). But what i know is I looked to see if there were no cars coming and it was safe to turn.

Anyway. This is going to cost me  a minimum of $450.00 !!!!! in 2011 the State of California raised all traffic fines to all time highs. The highest in the US, and probably the world!

So this is my story. I am p.o. I didn't ran a red light, I just maybe didn't stay stopped long enough to make that $#%policeman happy. I've been told to be careful in La Mirada, because is swarming with motorcycle police.  It was a motorcycle policeman that gave me a ticket in La Mirada Blvd for tailgating years ago. Sigh.
