May Recap

I haven't written much this month. Not a lot going on. We had some very hot days but now it's back to normal.I have been watching a lot of movies and reading a lot of books.
Lizzie already wrote about her Memorial day weekend, and Marvin wrote about the tomatoes. I will expand on it later and take a picture.
Both Marvin and I went to our respective podiatrists and have lovely looking feet. I also went to my regular doctor and everything's good, plus I got a shingles vaccine.
There was a big fire in Rosecrans and Marquardt in a recycling place, lots of ashes on the cars and the patio.
Norbert left for the Phillipines on the 26th, and Jennifer came by the next day and updated me on her never ending love drama. So far they are still not together, yay!

Trying again

I've been trying to write since Monday, but for some reason I type and nothing shows up. So here I am trying again.

Since Sunday, Mother's Day, nothing much has happened, other than the weather has been extremely hot and windy. Today was 103! There's big fires in San Diego county, and some starting around here as well. Let's hope they can  stop them from spreading.

I had a very nice Mother's Day, Lizzie came up on Friday and left Sunday after lunch. She brought me  chocolates and a potted azalea, and a very nice card, Marvin gave me a nice card as well, and I received my beloved SLC pastries from Sandy on Tuesday. Thanks to my daughters from a happy mama :)

Monday I went to the doctor for a check up and I am happy to say all is well. My blood pressure and cholesterol are good, and my diabetes is in control :)

After the doctor I met Norbert and we went to Costco and then to have lunch. Of course all the conversation was about his bride to be (yawn), his impending trip, etc. etc. I think he's putting the cart before the horse, so to speak. We'll see.

Shopping

It is a well known fact that I don't like shopping. Any kind of shopping.

It doesn't matter if I have extra money to spend, or if I have a gift card...it doesn't matter.

When Mia was here, she liked to go shopping. It's understandable, the prices are better here than in Sweden, the stores are different, she has fun shopping, I usually went with her foir a while, then I went back home and picked her up a few hours later (Brea Mall). Sometimes I would stay and sort of shop along (Sketchers). Sometimes I wondered around while she bought the store (Kohl's).
Kohl's give a $10.00 coupon for every $50 you spend. That day she got $50.00 in coupons. She gave them to me, since you couldn't spend them until 5/4 to 5/11.

I've been putting it off, but today I thought I better use them before 5/11. So out I went to Kohl's with the purpose of buying something. They have lots of stuff! After checking this and that and putting things back, and trying clothes, and getting stressed, I ended up with: a nice cookie sheet, a nice water pitcher, a nice Tshirt top...

So I got to the check out, and because Kohl's is weird and things were 20% off in some cases and 30% off in other, I ended up with a plus balance!!!! So rather than  leave and have to come back again the next day, I got another top, some hand soap, and a couple other odds and ends. Finally my shopping was done!

Friends!

You all know two of my best friends, Norbert and Jennifer. I even tried to set them up even though there's an age difference, but I am glad neither one was too thrilled with the suggestion (I think they are both very much alike in so many ways).

Norbert has been talking to me non stop about his impending trip to Manila, with a stop in Seoul. He's excited, indecisive, hopeful,   happy and upset, blah blah. He finally told his sisters and as expected they are giving him a hard time, I am so tired of hearing the same story over and over and over. He went and bought a mini iPad for him and the "bride to be if everything works out" so they can have face to face talks  while he's here and she's there, so they can get to get to know each other more before she comes to the US. Once here, they have 3 months to get married or out she goes back to Phillipines. Of course they haven't met yet. We'll see.

Yesterday Jennifer came over, and she spend about 3 hours talking about Jason, the latest break up, about how his brothers again broke them up by moving in with them in her apartment, etc etc. In spite of everything he's done to her I think she's still  hopeful because "she knows" he really loves her (he has a fine way of showing it, in my opinion). By the time she went home I was fed up with the same story over and over again, I hope this time she will stick with it and not see him again. Right!

Today Norbert came by after he went to Los Angeles to take care of passport stuff. I was not home, so he drove around and called me a while later. He asked me if I wanted to go shopping etc. and I said no, thank. He asked me if I had anything for him to do at home, I said not really. All in all I didn't feel like going with him anywhere and listen again and again to the same old stuff.

So this blog entry is mainly  about me venting. I had just about lost my patience with them. Especially because they really don't listen to me and don't seem too interested in my opinion.

Maybe tomorrow I will be ready to listen again  :)

This and that

Yesterday our finance man came to talk to us about retirement, investments, IRA's and all that fun tuff. He also looked at our Trust and advised us on making some changes/additions. I was glad to talk to him, he seems very nice and it helped us understand a few things I wasn't too clear on :)

Today  has been a very hot day, I had to refill my fountain a couple of times. I watered the plants that were looking quite dry. Lulu is being a good girl and hasn't had any more relapses, doing her business outside like a good doggie.
I also saw for the first time a California mountain blue bird in the garden. It was beautiful, and I hope he comes back.  BTW the baby hummers have flown the nest. I hope they come to visit and drink from the container outside.

In other news, Norbert is going to Manila on the 26th, and coming back June 10th, maybe with a Filipino bride! He's been wanting to do it for the last 4 years. A contractor friend of his that has been working on his rentals has a niece that is dying to come to the US, I think she's in her early 30's by now and studying to be -what else- a nurse. Norbert  is so undecided about everything that was driving me nuts with....why should I get married when I am happy this way, to....why shouldn't I get married and have a baby or two? and so on and so on forth. He's easily swayed and his sister Eva almost had a heart attack when he  was telling her (4 years ago) that he wanted to fly to Manila blah blah. Well this time I told him if that's what he wants to do, he should do it, or stop talking about it because it was tiresome. Also if it works fine, and if it doesn't then he hasn't lost anything. So  he went and bought a round trip ticket so he wouldn't change his mind again. His contractor friend will be there too to make the introductions. I wish him luck and will keep you posted  :)
BTW he hasn't told his sister yet!

You all take care and have a nice Sunday.
