A week in October

This week has been pretty fun.
Lizzie spent Saturday and part of Sunday in San Diego, I had a quiet weekend,  sorting thru some Kindergarten boxes. What memories! I really enjoyed my 26 years teaching kindergarten :)

On Tuesday I went to Huntington Beach, I had not been there for a while. I've been lazy and sometimes I don't feel like driving since L does most of the driving, but then I say to myself I need to get out more :) Norbert seems to have recovered from whatever was ailing him, but he's being more like himself. He was more than happy that I went by his house and I told him I wanted to go to Costco lol. I don't have a membership anymore just one to Sam's. I read from some of my online friends that Costco had some foods from Spain and I wanted to check it. Sure enough they had some yummy iberico ham pata negra at a very good price. 3 ounces for $15 I bought one, but I should have bought a lot more, maybe next time I go I hope they still have it. I also got a big jar of Marcona almonds, a dusty rose sweater, a rug for the living room and a fruitcake! yes a fruitcake lol.

After shopping we went to have lunch at a "Mediterranean" Cafe, not my Mediterranean area, but food from Lebanon etc. I had shish kebab with rice, and salad. I didn't care much for it, it lacked flavor. We then drove to the beach and it was so nice, the weather beautiful and warm. When we got back to his home, he decided my car needed washing, so that's what he did. I stayed inside playing with my phone.

On Thursday, Lizzie and I went to have a drink at a place across from Knottsberry Farm called The Cauldron https://www.thecauldronbar.com/  It was pretty cool, like a witches lair, big fireplace, big bar, a "secret" room behind the library etc. We had some good drinks, L had a whisky drink I had a Margarita with Chambord. The appetizers were fun too. Gougers, fries with butter parmesan cheese
and Croque Monsieur sliders. We shared a creme brulee.

Friday we went to the Fullerton Arboretum again. I enjoy going there, every time I see something different and fun. This time I liked a vine called Brazilian Dutchman's Pipe. It was so interesting. When the flower opens is huge and looks like is made of cloth with a cool pattern, it smells lemony.
There were lots of new flowers, because the weather is so nice I think the plants believe is Spring lol.
It was actually hot, I was sweating and had to sit down in the shade every so often.

Next week is Halloween. We decorated the house and have pumpkins in the porch. We will give out candy!

September Recap

I didn't feel too well this month. I went to the doctor September 30 and he gave me some antibiotics for diverticulitis. I hope it takes care of my pain and discomfort :) I also went to my podiatrist and to the eye doctor (eyelid infection) I also had a flu shot.

I went to eat at different restaurants with Lizzie: Casa del cocinero, Elo Cholo, Full Moon, L'Roma, Panda Inn, Mazaya, The Hat, The Habit, 12 Sixty, and a couple of others I can't recall.

Norbert got back from his trip to Yellowstone and his nephew went back to Hungary.

Lizzie went to the Rose Bowl to see a game with a co-worker from SD, she also went to Oceanside to meet with her friend Lindsey.

My daughter and my grandson from SLC came to spend a few days.  We had a fun a day in Los Angeles and even though it was only 4 days, we really enjoyed having them here.

I went to a dispensary and had a brownie ;)

But for my minor health problems, it was a good month.

Just a couple of notes

Hello friends and family!
This month again I have not written in this blog other than the recaps.

I will try to do better in October. I can joke and say September was too hot even to write, but the truth is I didn't have a lot to write about.
I haven't been feeling to well all month with a back pain that went into a lower abdomen pain, not really a big pain per se just a discomfort that tired me and kept me awake at night. Some days more than other. I have a doctor's appointment on Monday.
I also had eye problems and went to ophtalmology and I have "Blepharoconjuctivitis" and "dry eye syndrome" in both eyes.

Lizzie and I are doing fine, she's good company and we enjoy eating out :)

On the 21st Sandy and T came to stay a few days. I had not seen T since Christmas, and it was good to see them both. We had a good time going to the dispensary first thing  (a first for me and Sandy and T) I had a nice brownie ;)   I cooked croquetas and we had them that night. The next day we went to Los Angeles to see the "serpentine" and walk around Brea Tar pits and Museum row.

We went to eat  to El Cholo downtown, and were close to the Emmy's that was fun .Sandy wrote about it in her blog :)   Then we went back home, I stayed with Lulu and they went to Santa Monica and drive around then went to see some musicians friends of Lizzie that had a show.  On Monday we all went to Panda Inn for lunch and spent the rest of the day just reading, talking and chilling. I made a tortilla de patatas with chorizo for dinner.  The next day I drove them to the airport, Lizzie had to work. It was a short but fun visit!

This and that

I have become lazy at writing this blog. Sandy has been very good at blogging and I love reading about her life, Lizzie when she writes she does a great job, but living together now I know what's going on with her, for the most part.

This Summer seems to be going by pretty fast, I have not done much at all. L goes out early  every morning and walks different trails, she's become quite a hiker and seems to enjoy it. Next week, she's going to take me to the Fullerton Arboretum which is something I will enjoy although I surely won't walk as much as she does, not even close :) We've also have gone to the beach a few times.

I have enjoyed doing the #Augustbreak challenge in Instagram. It's fun to come out with pictures that depict the word of the day. Sunday the word is "My Hands", my hands look old, with many wrinkles, oh well, I'll have to get creative :)

My friend N welcomed his nephew from Budapest. I haven't seen much of him because prior to that, he had been spending time with his sister in Las Vegas. I had met Agoston, his nephew, when he came to the US when he was 16 years old, he's now 37. He wants to have a good time on his vacation and plans to stay for at least 3 months.  It'll be good for N to have him around because he was becoming a bit of a hermit.

Because of my gallstones problems and my surgery, I became very aware of my age. Then I had my gout pain, followed by my bunion hurting as hell. All in all I didn't feel like doing much of anything, just trying to recover and get in better shape. Right now I'm thankful to say I'm doing pretty OK. It was great to having my daughters caring for me.

I had been planning to surprise my sister Mia for her birthday next month, but I decided to first find out if it was OK. It was a good thing because she's celebrating her birthday a couple of weeks earlier and had everything all set down (she rented a whole hotel  for a few of her family and friends). So because of this change, we decided probably June might be a better time. I would have gone this June but then it was when I was having my health problems.

I have met some of my teacher friends and gone to lunch with them, also went to Jersey while they are getting their rooms ready for the children. School in SFS begins August 21st.

L and I are getting along well. I enjoy having her around, Lulu is happy too. 2018 was the only year in my life that I lived by myself, and although I enjoyed being on my own, is nice to have her here. I feel safer and also is good to have someone to go to different restaurants etc. We also enjoy cooking together :)

Now I am very much looking forward to Sandy and Tristan's visit next month!!!!

July Recap

July was the first full month that Lizzie has lived in La Mirada. There's been some adjustments, but I think we are enjoying each other's company. I am happy and thankful she moved in :)

We have gone out to eat several times, El Torito Grill, Slapfish, La Huasteca, The Habit, El Cholo, Cabo Taco, Ola, Cha Cha, Amor y Tacos, Lizzie has cooked a few times too. I also went out to lunch twice with teacher friends.

We went for a couple walks with Lulu to Creek Park and La Mirada Regional. We also went to the beach (minus Lulu)

The 4th of July was a bit of a downer. I found out L doesn't like fireworks at all, most especially the noise.

Talk to Nuri for her birthday, she turned 78. I also thought of going to Sweden to see Mia in September, but  it probably won't be till June.

We had a 6.7 earthquake July 5th and a couple of others after that. A shaky experience.

I has an ERCP July 15. Thankfully all went well :).  I had bunion pain for a few days, is still sore. I've been limping.

I went to Orange to a poetry reading. Lizzie was the featured poet. It was very nice.

Talked to Sandy every week and texted with T. Haven't seen much of N, he's gone to Las Vegas for a while.

L did a lot of cleaning and organizing. She cleared all her boxes! Mine are still waiting . It's been too hot to do much of anything.
