Not a good day!

Things didn't go very well for me today:

-I had a doctor's appointment and 8:30AM. I got up at 6:30, had a shower and a bit of breakfast, got dressed and was walking to the door when the phone rang. Too early for telemarketers I thought, so I answered it. It was a message from my doctor, he wouldn't be in today, so  we had to cancel my appointment and make another one for Thursday.

+In the plus side, Sandy texted me and Lizzie good morning and sent an emoji, Lizzie did the same, and so did I. Then Lizzie made her emoji come to life, so did Sandy and so did I.
It was fun and cute :)

-A couple of weeks ago I got some cash at the Bank, and a few days after I went to the beach but didn't want to take that much cash, so I took it out of my wallet and put it away. Well I can't remember where I put it, so I spent half a day looking for it. Getting senile much? but I am well known for not knowing where I put things. It was a constant source of annoyance for Marvin when I couldn't find my keys, money etc. etc. I'll keep on looking.

-The gardener came today, I went outside to talk to him and noticed the fountain was not working. It had been OK up to last night. He emptied it, and found out that the pump was broken. The fountain is a never ending source of joy for me. I love to see the finches and hummingbirds bathing and drinking from it. Sometimes doves and crows come to drink. I like the sound of the water bubbling.  The fountain is not looking great, we had it for a number of year. Buy another pump or a new fountain?

-I wanted to eat something new that I didn't have to cook. I called the Thai place Renu Nakorn and ordered chicken Pad Thai and sticky rice with Mango. It was very good, The mango was sweet and delicious. One piece was a little hard so I picked it up and bit on it and just about broke a tooth, It was the pit! My tooth is still sore.

-After dinner, it had cooled off a little so I decided to plant some plants I bought yesterday. I took a planter with geraniums that was on the area where I do  the plantings, and noticed that underneath were lots of tiny little spiders. I took the hose and rinsed them off, then I got some pots, dirt etc, and proceeded to plant them. I did a good job.  My legs felt a bit itchy so I rinsed them with the hose. When I went in the house I noticed big areas on my legs with a rash and some swollen spots. I don't think it was mosquito bites, maybe some of those pesky little spiders??? I don't know what it is but they sure itch. My legs are coated with aloe vera!

I hope this will be all for today. I plan on maybe watching a movie and then go to bed. In the plus side, the girls are having fun, one is watching a concert in the Gardens, the other is watching the frikis in ComicCon.

Let's hope all my readers are having a good day!

A little road trip

When Lizzie asked me if I wanted to go on a road trip to see her friend Barbara I said oh yes! I had been a bit bored at home and wanted to go some place, basically any place. But Fresno?

So we set up for trip to the north in California's Central Valley. My dog Lulu came along, and a lot of water bottles and some snacks. The weather in SoCal had been very hot, and the Central Valley is even hotter, most of the time it was around a 100 degrees.

The trip was much better than I thought, there's not a lot to see but fields and more fields. But we had an ongoing conversation about different things and it was nice. Lulu enjoyed the trip as well.
We stopped at a McDonalds and had really nice and crispy  McNuggets and fries. Lulu refused to drink water or pee but she had a couple of fries and a McNugget. We kept on going till we saw a sign that said "Kingsburg" , it said it was a little Sweden in the middle of Central Valley. That piqued our curiosity since my sister is Swedish, so we decided to take a little detour.

The water tower overlooked the town, it was in the shape of a Swedish teapot, we drove to it and saw part of the town with Swedish and American flags flying, with stores and murals with signs in Swedish. and even a dala horse. It was fun! This link tells you more about the town and its history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingsburg,_California

There was also an old jail that had a very cool 3D mural. I later learned that we could have walked around and look at the inside with people dressed like in the old times. Quite a tourist attraction. Maybe next time.

After this side trip, we drove to Fresno and went to our Hotel La Quinta. Very nice. It had the best beds, I slept like a log, very comfortably. The bed was very high. I almost needed a little step ladder to get up lol.

Before going to see Barbara play, we stopped in a Mexican Restaurant that had good ratings, but unfortunately they were undeserved. We let Lulu stay in our room and rest from the trip.  Barbara's show was very nice, the site was an art galley/Radio Station, she's an amazing singer.

After the performance we went back to the hotel and had a very pleasant good night.

The next day Sunday we drove back home. We stopped in Bakersfield for lung. Again McDonalds. We ordered 2 #6 I think, which had fries, 10 nuggets and a drink. We ate in the car, and I gave Lizzie her meal and I kept mine, then, surprise! there were 2 xtra boxes of McNuggets for a total of 50 little nuggets!!! We didn't eat it all of course, but Lulu had a couple oif them.

We stopped at a roadside fruit stand that boasted fruit just picked from the orchard right across. I bought 3 pounds of peaches for $8.00 and 2 mini melons @ .50 each. There were 9 peaches all together which came to almost $1.00 a piece. I thought that was pretty high priced, especially because when I has one that night it was not sweet, and the next day they were all sort of mushy and had to throw away 5 of them . I was disappointed. Especially when the next day I went to Trader Joe's and they had a box of a dozen of beautiful peaches for $5.99

We had a good drive back home, and we rested for a while, and then Lizzie had to drive back to San Diego. But she had a nice drive too.

All in all I enjoyed the trip and the company very much!

Hmmm I don't know about that :)

Crazy heat

This week the heat has kept on climbing and climbing. It has broken records, especially on Thursday and Friday (the high was 120F). Today even though it still reached 100 it has been a tiny bit cooler.

Lulu refused to go out all day Thursday and Friday, I had to pull her with the leash and carry her to the grass so she could at least pee outside. The sidewalks and streets were too hot for her paws, and she was  panting, after all like Lizzie said, she wears a fur coat (glad I had her trimmed lately).

She of course has been drinking a lot of water as have I. Thursday was Independence Day and it was fairly nice, I made some tacos and guacamole and had a couple of beers, then Amy asked me over, she had family visiting, and they had hamburgers and hot dogs and salads, I just had another beer. Then  they had some fireworks in the street. Lulu doesn't mind the noise but doesn't like to look at them. Later I went to the Jacuzzi, I have it at 95 degrees and it was super pleasant.

Thursday and Friday I became a total hermit. I had all the drapes a closed, and the AC on, I slept in the reclining chair in the living room  with Lulu next to me, which is the coolest room in the house. I didn't cook , just had leftovers and strawberry ice cream.

Today i had to go get some water, and I also went to the library. The La Mirada Library is a "coolin" place for the City. They had a table with bottles of water you could take. I took one. Then I went to the grocery store to get water and a couple of other things.

Tonight  it was cooler so  Lulu and I stayed outside for a little while, and I washed the car just with water, to take the dust off, then we went inside. Lulu has been very clingy lately so I played with her, and then I gave her some treats while I was at the computer. She was very quiet laying close to me, when I started feeling something cold reaching my bare feet....I had forgotten about the bottle of water that I had put in my book bag!!! she got it out and chewed on it and all the water spilled all over the floor of my computer/TV area! Grrrrrr

Blah

The last few days have been rather blah for me. I did hardly anything, was bored, didn't talk to anybody and just slept and ate and drank (Pepsi)

Going to Utah was fun and I enjoyed traveling with Lizzie to Sandy's house, we had a nice time, went to a few nice places for lunch, visited the awesome gardens, got to talk to my grandson, and even  went to see Marty working on their latest house renewal.

Then I got home and it seemed very empty, actually it was empty because I didn't get Lulu until the next day. Then from the 15 to the 19, I did nothing. Well other than Library and Stater Bros.

Wednesday I went to Huntington Beach , went to the beach for a little while, fixed a couple of things in N's computer and we had dinner at "Catch of the Day" clam chowder and halibut with a macadamia crust.  Yesterday I went to the LM park, they had Concert Under the Stars, a tribute to the Beatles, they had food trucks and I got a couple of pupusas (didn't like them)  Lulu was happy walking around, but we didn't stay too long because of mosquitoes.

I guess  the first day of Summer put me in a droopy mood or something. After 26 years of working as a K teacher, followed by 6 years of taking care of Marvin, I feel a little bit displaced so to speak. It is very freeing to be able to eat what I want when I want, and go to sleep late without interruptions, and get up when I feel like it.  Other than my girls :) the only constant is Norbert. But ever since he had a bad fall he's been acting a little different, watching too much TV, gaining weight, not wanting to do much of anything. Finally he seems to be waking up a little and is going to Lake Powell next week, he has not been there for 3 years and is all excited.

Probably I'll go with Lizzie to Fresno to see Barbara play next month. Probably not my #1 choice for a road trip, but it'd be nice being with Lizzie :)   Also, sometime next month I may go see the Gengis Kahn exhibition at the Reagan Library as per Norbert's invitation.

As for other friends and family, I don't hear much about any of them. Mia puts pictures in FB and Instagram, but there's not much communication other that "like" and a few comments, same with  Sonia and Monica. I am not in FB a lot because is boring and always the same thing.   Friends, Jennifer once in a while and my neighbor Amy. I have tried meeting some people in LM but you'all know I don't like meetings and that seems to be all that's available and I don't feel very interested in any of the meeting topics. And now in Summer everybody seems to be busy going on vacation etc.

Saturday night is St John's Eve, big holiday in Catalunya with special foods, and parties and bonfires. I will try to make a "coca de San Juan"!

Love you all.
