Hair

You all know that I hate to go to the dentist, but some may not know that I don't like to go to a hair salon.

I don't hate it but I don't look forward to it, it actually gives me some mild anxiety. There are some reasons for it. If I was in therapy, it would probably would get back to my sister Nuri. She was a hairdresser and for a time she had her own salon in Barcelona, and then for many years, had one in Platja D'Aro.

She of course always did my hair and most of the time she did a great job, but it came with a prize. When I went back to Spain for a vacation, she made fun of the way my hair looked, and proceeded to give me a hairdo she considered best for me, never asking what I wanted.

Truth be told, I was never very good at doing my hair (or my daughter's) although fortunately, they both have beautiful hair then and now :) The times I have gone to have my hair done at a salon, I never know what to say, so, of course, most of the time I don't like the results. This is my primary reason for not going to a salon. Kind of dumb, right?

This is how my hair looked when I was a teenager, before I came to the US

When I came to the States, I just washed and dried my hair, until I got pregnant and my mother came to visit. A friend of my mother-in-law cut my hair (I had no money for a salon cut). I was not happy with the cut (Sandy didn't look too impressed either)
I was glad my hair grows fast, and I went back to my bangs and long hair again.
Then we moved to Idaho, and still I didn't like to have my hair done at a salon. I honestly really cannot remember going to have my hair done in Jerome or Burley.
This is me with Lizzie, I remember I pulled my hair back and tied it, but look at my bangs!

And then we went back to California. And it started my search for a place to have my hair done. It was about time! I can't begin to tell you how many places I tried. At least 7 or 8 that I only went once and never went back again.  Finally I found a place in Whittier, a cute little house turned into a salon, ran by Frank and his wife. First time I ever liked my hair, (the fact they offered me wine may have had something to do with it) later they moved to a bigger place and I continued going. Then came the pandemic, and they got a divorce, and I just went back once since then.

This brings us to Papillon and Joseph. He's a Lebanese with a salon in my town, and strangely enough, I've always liked how my hair looks after. Both haircut and color. YAY!
I went there 2 days ago, the picture on top is my brand new color and cut (I still don't go often, last time was in May) and my hair had gone very light blond and had not much of a shape.

That was a long story just to say I don't enjoy having my hair done lol

PS I have been looking at my California teacher pictures, and seriously, my hair looks quite bad in all of them  :)

August Recap

The first week of August started on a bad note, my daughter Sandy tested positive for Covid (happily she's almost 100% recovered). I cooked some yummy carnitas, then and on Thursday I went to the podiatrist, had lunch at Olive Garden (meh), and got some yummy  Kelley's cookies.

The second week of August, I went to Kaiser to get my computer glasses, Lizzie went to San Diego for work, and Saturday she went to the theater with a friend.

In the third week of August, we went for an evening walk at the Fullerton Arboretum.

In the fourth week of August, Lizzie went back to San Diego for  3 days, for work and also to see some friends. Later this week, we had the plumber come and change the shower, drain, and fixtures in the main bathroom.

The gardener Carlos, came on Tuesday to remove the ramp in the backyard. It was built by my son-in-law, and friends. It really was a big help for Marvin. The ramp was also good when Lizzie moved here, it helped a lot to move furniture, etc. But after 11 years, the wood underneath had become rotten and unstable and it was safer to have it removed. The patio is a lot more spacious now.

This month August had 5 weeks. I changed my computer chair and mat, and today, Wednesday, we went to Let it Brie, for a yummy lunch. Today was also the hottest day of the year, so far, at 103F

June Recap

Ready for the 4th of July

June went by very fast, we are already in the middle of 2022. Time seems to fly as you're getting older.

I started the month of June with color and haircut. Much needed
We had a bathroom emergency and had to call the plumber to the tune of $1800. There was a leak on the floor by the toilet. The plumbing was old and corroded.
The next day I took Marvin's all-in-one PC to get it fixed @ Kaddy's.
On Saturday the 4th, I woke up sick, with nausea, headache, and joint pains.
Sunday was Sandy's birthday! I felt a little better but still sickly.
Monday  I felt better, called Norbert for his name day. We had our 1st Monday face-to-face with Lizzie and Sandy.
On the 9th we went to pick up the PC, works well :) Lizzie went to the Theater. On the 14th I had a long face-to-face talk with Nuri, and Sonia. It had been a while since I last talked to my sister, she sounded and looked well.
Sandy got pretty sick with the flu on the 17th.
The next Monday, the 20th. My sister Mia had surgery, to do with her kidney stones. Hopefully, all will go well.
That same night Lizzie had a very painful pain in her lower abdomen. We went to Kaiser Urgent Care, after a couple of hours waiting, she was prescribed antibiotics and a pain pill.
On the 22nd Marty had a work accident, partially slicing part of his index finger.
Saturday was Monica's 50th BD. On Monday we took my other PC to Kaddy's.
Mia had to go back to hospital with a big infection.
June 24 (San Juan) I got up at 5AM to see the planet alignment. I saw Venus, Mars, Jupiter and the Moon. It was a great sight and a nice way to end the month.

My  picture, Venus, the Moon and Mars
