Hair

You all know that I hate to go to the dentist, but some may not know that I don't like to go to a hair salon.

I don't hate it but I don't look forward to it, it actually gives me some mild anxiety. There are some reasons for it. If I was in therapy, it would probably would get back to my sister Nuri. She was a hairdresser and for a time she had her own salon in Barcelona, and then for many years, had one in Platja D'Aro.

She of course always did my hair and most of the time she did a great job, but it came with a prize. When I went back to Spain for a vacation, she made fun of the way my hair looked, and proceeded to give me a hairdo she considered best for me, never asking what I wanted.

Truth be told, I was never very good at doing my hair (or my daughter's) although fortunately, they both have beautiful hair then and now :) The times I have gone to have my hair done at a salon, I never know what to say, so, of course, most of the time I don't like the results. This is my primary reason for not going to a salon. Kind of dumb, right?

This is how my hair looked when I was a teenager, before I came to the US

When I came to the States, I just washed and dried my hair, until I got pregnant and my mother came to visit. A friend of my mother-in-law cut my hair (I had no money for a salon cut). I was not happy with the cut (Sandy didn't look too impressed either)
I was glad my hair grows fast, and I went back to my bangs and long hair again.
Then we moved to Idaho, and still I didn't like to have my hair done at a salon. I honestly really cannot remember going to have my hair done in Jerome or Burley.
This is me with Lizzie, I remember I pulled my hair back and tied it, but look at my bangs!

And then we went back to California. And it started my search for a place to have my hair done. It was about time! I can't begin to tell you how many places I tried. At least 7 or 8 that I only went once and never went back again.  Finally I found a place in Whittier, a cute little house turned into a salon, ran by Frank and his wife. First time I ever liked my hair, (the fact they offered me wine may have had something to do with it) later they moved to a bigger place and I continued going. Then came the pandemic, and they got a divorce, and I just went back once since then.

This brings us to Papillon and Joseph. He's a Lebanese with a salon in my town, and strangely enough, I've always liked how my hair looks after. Both haircut and color. YAY!
I went there 2 days ago, the picture on top is my brand new color and cut (I still don't go often, last time was in May) and my hair had gone very light blond and had not much of a shape.

That was a long story just to say I don't enjoy having my hair done lol

PS I have been looking at my California teacher pictures, and seriously, my hair looks quite bad in all of them  :)

Hair is so strange! Most women spend so much time obsessing over it. I’ve been going to the same hair stylist for nearly 20 years. I always like the way my hair looks after Lanna styles it, but I rarely can duplicate the look. LOL Good thing the cut is good. I like the color you got. :)

Wow, I see the resemblance between us when I see those school photos! Love you, Mamacita!
