San Jose

I was sure I had written one more post after I did the February recap, but either I am mistaken or my post is hovering in the ethernet.

February seemed to go by very quickly, but March seems to be dragging a bit.

There has not been a lot going on, I got my second vaccine on a rainy day, and felt a bit poorly for a couple of days. The 19th was my grandson's 23rd birthday, it was also my name day. As I think I said before, while growing up, we celebrated our Saint day much more than birthdays. My grandmother named her oldest son Ricardo and that was the Saint of the day he was born, so he had a double celebration. Other than that, we only celebrated birthdays when we were little, after 5 or so it was only name days. San Jose, the 19th of March, was special because both my mother and I were named after San Jose, I was Maria Josefa, my mom was Pepita (a very common nickname of Jose) . My mother was only known as Josefa for documents etc, everybody else always called her Pepita, but my father called her Pita.  My daughters called her Mama Pepita.

There's a children's song about the name Jose, so I'm going to write it:

Jose se llama el padre, Josefa la mujer, y un hijo que tenian tambien se llama Jose...se llama el padre, Josefa la mujer....It's a never ending song, There's lots of Pepe's and Pepita's too.

San Jose is also Father's Day in Spain.  San Jose is a holiday, so all the family came to our house to celebrate. This is the typical dessert, crema catalana or crema de San Josep. Creme brulee is similar but of course is a copy of crema catalana.

Among Europe's oldest desserts, Catalan Cream dates back to at least the 14th century, the first time it appeared in print in the cookbook Llibre de Sent Soví, whereas the earliest known recipe for crème brûlée didn't appear until 1691 in Cuisinier Royal et Bourgeois.

February Recap

February 1, I woke up with a very sore toe. I was hoping it wouldn't be gout, but alas, it was. This time I didn't want to suffer pain and I took a colchicine tablet that I didn't take the last time I had gout, and next day my toe was still red and a little sore but no pain. Yay! (I found out that colchicine is not sold anymore because of side effects, etc) but it sure helped me this time.

February 8, I found out I have a new relative, on my paternal grandmother's side. Mia let me know about a man that had a DNA similar to hers. I got in touch with him, Marc Carbo. He lives in Sabadell, near Barcelona, and seems to be a very nice man.

February 10 I got my first vaccine shot at Kaiser in Tustin.

February 12, I got a new pair of shoes at Skechers and because it was Chinese New Year, I also had a very nice take out meal from Renu Nakorn.

February 19, it would have been my 56th wedding anniversary. It was also My friend's 65th birthday.I  also had what might have been the stomach flu. I did not feel too well for about a week.

We did a lot of gardening, and made a nice area for my succulents.

As usual, we had a lot of good Blue Apron meals, take out meals, and of course meals cooked at home.  I enjoyed talking to S every Friday. And watching L's shows: Lifebeat and Black poetry.

February Happenings

I'm bad at writing my blog. L has been writing all month about Black History, and S is very good about posting often. Me, not so much.

One of the reasons is because of the pandemic, my days seem to morph into the next and so on. Wake up late, walk around the garden with L and Lulu, have a talk with L about how our day is looking, check my email, do some PSP, check FB and IG, then lunch, nap or garden or read or watch TV or all of the above. Then dinner which L cooks, or I cook or is take out, and back to watching TV or reading or doing PSP. At night I usually watch a movie or two or some Netflix show, then I play with TikTok, and usually go to bed around 2 or 3.

I got my second plant from S's gift. It's a nice rex begonia. We also started getting oranges from our tree to make OJ, so sweet!

This month so far has had a couple different things. The main one is I got my first Covid vaccine Feb 10 at Kaiser, Tustin. It went very smoothly. I also went to several stores and did a little shopping. Went to Sketchers with L and got a cute pair of shoes, and had a Thai lunch to go from Renu Nakorn, with my favorite dessert of sweet rice and mango.

We had a nice Valentine's blue apron dinner, and a nice little gift from my neighbor Amy. This week we had a lot of take-out, just simple things like Mc Donalds, Popeye, Puffy Taco, Panera etc. On the 17 L had a migraine and spend the day resting, and then on the 19th it would have been my, and also Norbert's 65th birthday. I didn't feel well all day and spent most of all day napping. I also talked to S and it was nice. Today I feel OK :)

So that's about what's going on. Now it's 11PM and I'm trying to find a good movie to watch.

Be well.

January Recap

I may be getting used to being at home. I have my routine and I like it for the most part. Of course, the bad things are not being able to see Sandy, and Tristan, and not being able to travel even short trips.

Some January happening. We had a mini shopping day at Marshall, and that's always fun. Norbert came by and took the Xmas lights down and helped around a little. We cleaned the garage and I bought a leaf blower to keep it clean. I will be painting and gardening etc. on the big counter.

Weather-wise it's been crazy. Very hot one day, lots of rain, cold, windy, and sunny some other days.

Sandy has been having his January cold, it lingers :( She also got a new dog Harley, and I got an English Ivy she sent me (a new plant for 3 months) I'm planting lots of succulents too.

I'm feeling good and I am getting used to my longer hair, I even got some compliments in FB, lol

Lizzie and I do our shopping biweekly and we take turns cooking. It's working well :)

Politics

Mid January

For me personally, this month is being very nice so far. I've been doing some shopping in Amazon, just things I needed, like a waffle maker, a battery organizer and tester, garden pots, leaf blower, clock and more. I'm also turning parts of the garage into a "studio" for painting and playing, and also a gardening area, where I keep gardening stuff. Lizzie and Norbert helped me clean the garage, also we put the Christmas things away.

Lizzie and I also went to Marshall for Reyes Magos and had a little shopping spree. I got a couple of tops, some Godiva chocolates, stuff for Lulu, and some other things. It was fun.

I'm very much looking forward to Spring, and getting some more plants and replacing/propagating some of the older ones. I have become more interested in succulents since Sandy got me a gift of succulents, now I look for different pots to put other succulents in. My neighbor Amy also gave me 2 big succulents.

I also got a plant of the month gift for Christmas, thanks to Sandy, and is fun because it comes with a plant, a vase, and everything is included.

This is a random post, but that's what I'm doing now. Gardening, eating, watching TV, doing PSP, reading and chilling.

You all take care, love you. Be well!
