June Recap

June was supposed to be the month where I was going to Sweden, meet my sister, and spend Midsummer there, and also a quick visit to Prague. But it wasn't meant to be. The Corona Virus changed my plans.

June was also the month that things in the house broke down or needed repair, or both. The A/C stopped working, the repair man changed the transformer, and 10 days later it blew up again. It is now working OK after the second transformer was installed.  The washing machine  was acting very strangely, it wouldn't fill up just started with the rinse. Almost ready to call the Maytag man, but then I moved things around, I think it needed realignment, and is working fine again. The TV in my room wouldn't turn in, again I did my magic and fixed it following Google directions. The wifi has been acting up as well. The refrigerator is making loud noises very annoying. etc. etc. Not fun!

Norbert just got back from spending 3 weeks in Las Vegas with his sister. So now I have another person to talk to during confinement, besides my daughters and the occasional neighbor or school friends.

Healthwise, knock on wood, we are all doing well. I have not heard from Mia for a while but I saw thru FB that they all had gone on vacation, so I imagine they are all OK.  Nuri and family in Spain seem to be fine. Unfortunately there seems to be a resurgence of the virus, so here in California, even though there's been some opening of beaches, businesses, restaurants etc. they may be closing down again. In LA they are closing the beaches for the 4th of July.

I won't even talk about politics. But that became a big part of June as well.

After spending 3 months letting my hair go naturally white, I colored it lass Saturday. I feel more like myself.  Also this month I went to TJ's. I missed it. Today I went to get my second shingles shot, and afterwards we went to La Huasteca, and had 2 Mango Margaritas, and some tacos. It was great!

Lulu is doing well, she had a haircut and is being very loving. I hope she can meet Mac, Sandy's new dog sometime :)

MOVIES I'VE WATCHED THIS MONTH
I haven't watched a lot of movies, but have seen a lot of Netflix shows.

What's going on!

I don't like to write about things like politics because I understand that I am not in the same page with some of my relatives/friends in certain areas.
I am getting too old to debate stuff like that, and frankly, at this stage of my life really the things I care more about is my health, my family's health, and trying to live as well as we can in the middle of this pandemia.
I could talk about living all my life in Spain under the dictatorship of Franco, and how it makes me laugh when I hear some people calling Trumps a dictator/fascist, etc etc. mostly from people that have never lived in other countries with different regimes.
But all I want to do is to send a thing I read that makes a lot of sense to me. You are welcome to read it or ignore it. And agree or disagree. It has to do about the way the media portrays the news, in this case their take on BLM
Here it is:

Both sides :

·              Floyd was murdered and the officers involved should be arrested.
·              Most protesters are peaceful.
·              Most cops are good cops.

Right-leaning media (Fox, Limbaugh, etc…):
·              Outside groups are hijacking the protests to cause trouble. Most of the groups doing that are leftists groups like Antifa, or just local gangs who are looting just for free stuff, not to prove any societal point.
·              It is proper to point out that places that consistently elect Democrats seem to have the most issues.
·              This has little to nothing to do with Trump, but that won’t stop the other half of the media from blaming him for it.
·              It’s also proper to point out that the worst of the rioting and looting is happening in places where Democrats have made it difficult for citizens to get guns to defend themselves.
·              Wow, the media sure did quickly drop the COVID-19 story.
·              Expect this sort of media hyperbole/world falling apart kind of rhetoric until the election.

Left-leaning media (CNN, NYT, etc…):
·              Outside groups are hijacking the protests to cause trouble. Most of the groups doing that are far-right or racist groups.
·              Trump bears a lot of responsibility for the atmosphere he has created that led to these riots and looting.
·              The looting in particular is an understandable response to generations of minorities being left behind economically.
·              It is irrelevant that this is happening in places that have been run by Democrats for generations. To make this political is to dishonor Floyd.
·              But also, this is mostly Trump’s fault.

The truth is, unfortunately, that there really are two media bubbles in this country, and, unless you recognize that and seek out information from both bubbles, you’re only getting one side of the story… the side that is being presented not to inform you, but to persuade you.

May Recap

May was not a good month. There was the Covid19 still in effect, not getting much better.  I've been sheltered at home for way too long. I miss going to the beach, miss not seeing the sunset at the beach. Miss not being able to travel -had to cancel a trip to Sweden and Prague. Can't travel from LM to Utah or vice versa.
Then the murder of a black man by a white policeman and the subsequent protests along with riots and looting. And the hash tags.
People were already on edge because of the Corona virus, then things starting to open and they took to the streets without a regard for others, in many countries, including the US.
Some family problems too :(
But there were some good times :.
We are all healthy.   Lizzie is living here and doing the shopping, being good company, and cooking. The garden is blooming. There's Lulu. And a new puppy in Utah.
How will June be? probably more of the same in some cases. Hopefully only good things will happen.
