A Road Trip to Arizona (day 3)

On Saturday, May 11, we took a tour of Sedona. We chose the early one at 9:30 AM and we were the only passengers in the tour van,  we had our driver guide Mike, all to ourselves.
Mike was very knowledgeable about all things Sedona. We really enjoyed the tour and the stories he told. We toured part of the Red Rock Country, visited Tlaquepaque, and stopped at the Holy Cross Church
The Chapel was completed in 1956
If you step on the footprints at the front of the 9 ft Holy Cross, look up and you will see Jesus gazing directly at you
Photo taken by Mike, our guide

Looking at a rock formation near the chapel, Lizzie thought she saw the face of Jesus. I looked at it and saw it as well. It's hard to see in the picture, but you can see the eyes, beard, and hair clearly. Our guide was very impressed and will make it a part of his stories when he takes people on tour. I
                                                                        It was impacting.
Our last stop was the magnificent view from the airport.
Here is the statue of Sedona Miller Schnebly,  the namesake of the town.

After the tour, we stopped at The Cowboy Club
The Cowboy Club (Formerly the Oak Creek Tavern) has been the social center of Sedona for over seventy years. The tavern originally opened in 1946 serving as the meeting place, pool hall, saloon and grocery store to locals and tourists alike. During the 1950’s and 1960’s, over fifty western movies were filmed in the area. When the day’s shooting was done, the wood walls echoed with the talk and laughter of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Legends like John Wayne, James Stewart, Donna Reed, Robert Mitchum, Burt Lancaster, Rock Hudson, Glen Ford and Joan Crawford were known to enjoy the warm fire and welcoming atmosphere. Even Elvis was said to frequent the tavern while filming 1968’s Stay Away Joe.

Happy Hour with a delicious prickly pear Margarita

We also had cast iron cornbread with honey chipotle butter, yum!

After, we drove the loop of Thunder Mountain Road, went home and napped.

Later we had dinner at Rascals.

It was a full day, with awesome sights and experiences.

May Recap

May was a travel month. We drove to one of my favorite places, Sedona AZ. It was a nice, fun trip!
I slipped and fell in the kitchen floor on May 7th. Luckily, I just got scratches and bruises.
Lizzie got sick after eating at Reventaco. Sandy got the summer flu at the end of the month. And the wounds in my leg are not quite healed.
We had to fix our stovetop, and I was not satisfied with the job Liberty had done $$wise.
In May, Nicole had her 22nd birthday and went to Sweden for TS Eras Tour, she also met Mia.
Lizzie and I tried two new restaurants, Krunch Burger and Dame Mas. Both good.
I had my usual once-a-week talk with Sandy :)
On May 30, I had an appointment with my eye surgeon Dr. Chacer. Everything is good, just dry eyes.

A road trip to Arizona (day 2)

Watson Lake Park

Friday morning, we stopped to see my sister in law Mary. She's staying at The Landings of Prescott Valley, an assisted living facility. It was nice to see her after a long time. She seemed happy to see us.

On our way to Jerome, we took a little detour to see Watson Lake, we took a couple of wrong turns and didn't see too much of the lake. We wanted to stop in Jerome for lunch, but we couldn't find any place to park  :(  so we continued on to Sedona.

SEDONA

As we arrived to Sedona, I didn't know where to look!!! all the rock formations were awesome. It filled me with joy to finally be in a town that was in my quest list for a long time! It didn't disappoint.

We drove to Lizzie's friend house, it was in a beautiful area, with a view of one of the great rock formations.

The house was beautiful inside and outside

After we rested for a while, we went in search of a place to eat, and a drive around town.

Fiesta Mexicana Restaurant. Great food but poor service.

We also stopped to buy a few rocks/stones in one of the many stores in Sedona.

At night we had a couple of beers and some snacks, and went outside to look at the moon and the stars.
It was a beautiful, clear, cool night

A Road Trip to Arizona (Day 1)

I have wanted to go to Sedona AZ for a long time. This May, Lizzie and I planned on taking a road trip from La Mirada to Sedona, leaving on Thursday, May 9.

We were preparing for the tip and a couple of days before leaving, I slipped in the kitchen and fell, badly bruising my right arm and shoulder. I was lucky I didn't break anything, but it was a shock (update: my bruises and scratches are all gone, but my right knee is still a little sore).

We left around 10:00AM on Thursday as planned. Lulu came along too. Lizzie is a very good driver and we had an uneventful trip to Prescott AZ, we made it in a little over 6 hours. Trivia: we left Lulu's water bowl in one of our rest stops. We crossed the very windy roads of the Prescott National Forest and arrived at the Hotel in Prescott. After a little rest, we drove to Prescott Valley to my nephew Rick's house, to say hello to him and Lee,the kids, Petey, and the chickens.

After visitng for a whiule, we went to downtown Presscott because I wanted to go to Whiskey Row, and also to get something to eat.

After walking around and eating a huge pulled pork sandwich, we went back to the hotel for a well deserved sleep. Lulu was happy to see us.
