February Recap

Huntington Beach pier with Nicole

February was not my favorite month. DENTISTS AND MORE DENTISTS and nothing was done, also my cousin Ferran died of Covid! My podiatrist said I might need inserts (in my shoes). In the international scene, there's war between Russia and Ukraine :(
Good things: I got my new glasses and my driver's license and I had my hair cut and colored. Nicole came to spend 2 weeks and 4 days :)

Dentists: I went to My La Mirada Dentist, on the strength of their website and reviews. They were lies!
The first dentist Dr Sophie was nice and said she'd do the root canal. We made an appointment. Then they called me that she was sick, and had to cancel and made another appt. Dro Sophie was still sick so I went to Dr Lufken for the root canal. After working on my molar for over an house, she couldn't do it and referred me to an specialist. Made an appt with an endodostist, and he couldn't do it because there was not enough tooth left for a crown. So he advised to have it extracted, plus he found another too that had an infection and had to go too!!!!   It's been a nightmare for me that I have always been very weary and scared of dentists.

On the 23rd Lizzie and I went to LAX to pick up Nicole. It was nice to see her, she's 19 now. That Saturday we went to Huntington Beach and Pacific City

Having late lunch at El Ranchito

And watched a nice sunset

Mid February

February is orange time!

On February 8, I planted a tomato plant and a strawberry plant.

This month has been very busy so far. I wanted to update what's been going on so far.

To start with, I got my new glasses both for long-distance daytime and nighttime. I can't wait to go get my driver's license! After getting the glasses we went to La Huasteca for a much deserved Mango Margarita.

Tuesday the 8th, Lizzie took me to the DMC. I was so prepared. Knew the driver test questions100% and I was very confident I could read even the smaller numbers in the chart. We get there, they call my name., they said because of Covid they don't give the written test, what? and after checking I had previously paid for the license, I got my temporary one. I didn't even have to read the chart!!! I'm happy but it was such a letdown in a way.

Then here comes the saga of going to the dentist to take care of what I thought was going to be a non problematic filling of a cavity. How wrong I was! We went to a new dentist, she said I needed a root canal and a crown, but the appointment was canceled because she was sick, a couple of days later Feb 16, I tried another dentist at the same office, she was going to do the root canal! It was going well (I took my Xanax) and she spent a long time working on it, then stopped and said she had to refer me to a specialist. I couldn't get an appointment until Feb 28. In the meantime, I can hardly eat, only soft stuff. Oh I also had my hair cut and colored on Feb. 16, it was a full day

Some bad things happened this month. My sister Mia has been in and out of hospitals with a kidney stone, an infection and other problems. She has had a lot of pain and they may have to have surgery since she cannot pass it naturally.  On Feb 11 I got a call from my niece saying my cousin Ferran had died of COVID and other complications, I got very upset and sad, he was my favorite cousin, we grew up together. I'm so glad I got to see him during our trip to Spain. My sister Nuri called me to talk about Ferran, she was also sad.

Flowers from my cousin before lunch at Can Culleretas, Barcelona

February 19th would have been my 57th wedding Anniversary, it was also my friend Norbert's 66th birthday.

Today is 2-22-22 a palindrome
In Spain is 22-2-22 also a palindrome

And just for fun, here's Lulu begging for some of our take out lunch
I love my silly Lulu!

My niece Nicole will be arriving from NYC on Wednesday
....to be continued

January Recap

I wanted to write more often in January, but it really didn't happen. There was nothing much going on.

We had Canalones for January 1st (traditional). Lizzie and I went on a Reyes Magos shopping spree, but we didn't really find anything we really wanted, but it was OK. The next day we went to a dentist specialist in root canals, and it was not a bit of fun! I kept on gagging when they tried to take a picture of my bad tooth, it was traumatic for me. The next day L had a panic attack which was scary for both of us.

On the 10th, N came over to take off the Christmas lights, then we went to Pho 45 for soup. That was nice. We also had our oven fixed on the 22nd.

We had some days of rain and wind,  on the 21st I went to have my eyes checked and ordered two pairs of glasses for long distance, one sun glasses and one clear.

The plants and flowers are doing well with all the rain, it looked a lot like Spring. Hummingbirds buzzing.

My 78th Birthday

View from our room at the Windham Hotel in San Diego

Lizzie, Lulu and I drove down to San Diego on Friday, and got to the Windham San Diego Bayside hotel. We had a very nice room with gorgeous views. This is one of two cruise ships right across our hotel.

We had a reservation at Level C Restaurant in Harbor Island. We had been there before in 2018 for Thanksgiving dinner, and it has gorgeous views of San Diego and the bay. This year we also enjoyed a beautiful full moon night.

My birthday dinner was so good! The appetizer was yummy and the entree of fish and chips with hush puppies, was just what I wanted. For dessert the restaurant treated me to a yummy cake .

It was a great beginning of my 78th year!

I also had a nice talk with Sandy, when she called me to wish me a Happy Birthday :)

The next morning we had a very french breakfast downtown San Diego, Lizzie's favorite. Then we walked around for a while. Lulu likes walking in San Diego.

I felt like I was getting a cold. Lizzie had her show at the Star of India that night, and I decided to stay in the hotel instead because it was a bit cold and drizzly that night. But we had a linner right across the hotel to a nice place called Miguel's, and I had a nice sopa de albondigas that warmed me up.

Then we walked to the Star of India, what a beautiful ship!

After the show was over, Lizzie came to the hotel and brought some goodies. Her poem was very well received, and she looked beautiful!
This  picture was taken before she left for the show

It was a great  time in San Diego. Thank you Lizzie!

Till the next time San Diego!
