I was reading S's blog about her food, diets, WW, etc.
I've written about this before, but I will write again about my mother's thoughts about food and diets etc.
My mom's weight for most of her adult life was around 60 kilos. She was thinner than that before she got married and had children.
She never was on a diet, that I remember. She ate everything, there was never any forbidden food, and she would try anything. She said food was food, although she might like some foods more than others.
If she gained 2-3 kilos she would just eat smaller portions until she lost them. Conversely if by any chance she lost 2-3 kilos she might have some extra dessert until she was back at her normal weight.
One important thing to maintain her weight was there a meals schedule: breakfast at 9AM, lunch at 2PM, and dinner at 10:30PM. No snacks in between.
She didn't exercise, other than regular housework, but she walked a lot every day.
I wish I'd have followed her example but when I came to the States, I started gaining weight. The food was different, my meal times were different, there was constant snacking (much of it out of boredom) and no exercise. Every place we went was by car.
I knew I was getting heavier. The times we went back to Spain, my mother and sister reminded me often that I had gained weight.
I tried to diet but was never successful. I remember after Sandy was born I joined a group called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). We weighed weekly, and at the end of the month, we met in a restaurant for lunch. The person that had gained the most had to take a big plastic pig home and set it in the front lawn. Interestingly enough, the person that had lost the most got her lunch for free.
Maybe more to come....
